If you follow the iOLM and are using MC filters then you will be running one at least if not more than 10K miles. Most, if not all, of the late models Fords have an iOLM that will push at least 10K miles and no where does Ford state the filter cannot be used that long--so this leaves one to **assume** it can be. I used one FL-820s for a 10K OCI and another for a 15K OCI and FL-500s for a 10K OCI and then switched the whole fleet over to FRAM Ultra. The wire backing on the media gives a level of security not obtained with a non-supported filter. YMMV!

Thanks

I don't change oil according to OLM, after it indicated 32% life left, and an UOA showed a fairly low TBN after 7500 miles. I wouldn't trust a cellulose filter media past 7500 miles.

Got a few pictures here. Not the greatest quality but you get the idea.

Here is one from 2012 of the FL1A I mentioned with a torn pleat. If you look at the base on the right you can see the glue line from where the pleat was originally at and see the pleat has torn.

Here is the FL400 with the torn pleat. Run time was 7500 miles witch is factory recommended OCI using motorcraft syn blend 5W20

Another FL-820s from the same F-150. This one has only 1000 miles on it. No tears, but look at the chunks of adhesive. I removed this one because I found torn pleats on the FL-400s.

These are 3 of the last 4 Motorcraft filters I have cut open. The other FL-400s looked really good. Two bad filters in a row, is enough to keep me from using them. The 3rd one with the loose chunks of adhesive just adds to that.

Yeah manufacturers should not use glue, looks like a halfa.s.s.e.d job

Here FL400 7.5k OCI torn media:

^^^ It's media tearing season again. It all started about this time last year ... Purolator built filters used over the winter months are tearing up media.

Makes you wonder if the thick oil from the cold is just to much for the media. Also makes me wonder if the bypass valves are even functioning.

The bypass valve should protect the media regardless. Maybe Puro's bypass valve stinks. Puro's are about the worst for start up rattle issues on my Jeep.

It is absolutely real that there are problems with the filters they make and its a no brainer that if their flagship filters tear and has drama associated with them others might also... Might is a big word that can get expensive real quick. I don't gamble on the engines we build. We take quality very seriously and can't afford a Russian roulette attitude when thousands of dollars and our good reputation could be involved. I used to use them and granted i had no problems to date but too many have had problems so to be safe i use other filters. I did not have problems with start up rattle using group 7 (puro made)

You do know Group 7 filters are Purolator made? I would rather use a Premium Guard like the one DSparks cut open ;-)

So they also may be tearing just beware if that. I have a couple ProMotive filters and a Pennzoil filter I brought home. Now I wanna cut some open since they are Purolator made

Recently installed an FL-910S on my moms Focus
and have an FL-910S waiting to be installed on my wifes Vibe.
I don't have the same hesitation of using the motorcrafts as I do with the purolators.
The last FL-400S I used on the Vibe was fine.
