This filter was used on a gen 3 coyote for 6 months and a fairly low amount of kms/miles and seems to have held up well. But this glue was all over the media and on the bottom of the can and was loose. Kinda disappointing for an oem filter.

Looks ok, what oil and filter went back in and on?

Thank You

Filter looks good. Glue is on the outside of the media so no harm done. With manufacturing comes process control and sometimes this kind of stuff happens.

Just my $0.02

Ford Motorcraft factory installed oil filters used to be made by Champion while the aftermarket Motorcrafts were made by Purolater. Is this still the case?

While it looks disappointing it probably did it's job and kept the glue out of the engine.
That being said you might try a more premium filter (extended mile filter) that may have better quality control for peace of mind.

Loose glue - like the OP mentioned and shows - certainly could be a problem if it happens to be swept through the bypass valve when it opens. There was a member here years ago that had a damaged engine because some glue came loose and got swept through the bypass valve. They found the broken off piece inside the engine and it matched the area where it broke off inside the filter.
