Here are some pictures of the differences between the 2062 and the 2062a. The 2062a is apparently the redesigned oil filter for the 2.7 ecoboost engine. I'm not sure if I could call it a better or worse filter as I really don't know what helps or hurts cartridge filters. Unless there's a big reason to stop, I plan to run through my 2062's and transition over to my newest batch of 2062a's.

Anyone want to offer their opinions as to the reason for the redesign or which they think is the better built filter?

The FL-2062A is a classic Mann design. The old FL-2062 looks more like the old Purolator type filter. Mann-Hummel is probably just cleaning up their catalog. It makes economic sense to have the same filter across all of their brands.

Even though I usually go FIFO, I went ahead and tried one of my new 2062a's out of curiosity. The o-rings are much better than the original. The end caps have a smaller inner diameter, so it seems to have a better seal against the oil filter housing and cap.

I Changed my oil in the F150 and noticed the difference in the filters . The A designation seems to have a tighter fit in the housing as noted.

I have sold tons of these with no issues. Now if you really want the rubber end caps, the FL-2087 that fits the GT-350/R and GT-500 has them as well as a metal inner cage. Be prepared for a bit of a sticker shock though.
