I stated that based on looks I though that the FL2008 and the PH5618 were the same filter.

I got at least one guy's panties all in a bunch

I realized that while I asked for the LF2008 I got the FL2021 (which is the newer replacement filter for the FL2008).

I have used them both and tonight while removing the PH5618 I pulled out the used FL2021 I saved from my last oil change.

I cut them both open and I can confirm that they are exactly the same filter. Same look, same construction, same internals. I can't say for sure that the media is the same but it looks the same to me. Both make in the UK. The only difference is the Motorcraft is white (with the usual Motorcraft markings) and the Fram is orange

The filter contruction is not typical of the US Fram filters. It is higher contruction (although not as nice as the Purolator made Motocraft filters -- in my opinion).

I wouldn't hesitate to use either of these filters but from now on I'm going to use the German made Purolator LF15317 because it looks better to me and it is my car

All kinds of funny cross sourcing between companies goes on in the filter business. I think that Wix bought what used to be the Delphi (previously AC-Delco) filter factory in the UK. I wonder if they sourced this part number to both Fram and Purolator.
