After reading about Motorcraft oil filter quality posts and the Fram leaky leaf spring issue recently I wonder if I should run something different. My oci has been every year because the truck only gets driven about 350-500 miles a year using Rotella t4.

Should I switch to a Premium Guard oil filter like the Microgard Select?

I started using Microgard Select on everything that it is available in. Thick can, heavy baseplate, quality construction, economical. Use it on my restomod annual oil changes, not driven much.

Funny enough the Microgard Select filter is $16-$23 cheaper compared to the Motorcraft filter depending where you buy it.

Are the Acdelco filters in the same category?

The leaky leaf spring issue won't be a problem with these filters because they use a solid metal end cap on the leaf spring end. There is no bypass valve or anti drainback valve in these filters.

Ive been using the Fram PH3786, TG3786 and XG3786 without issue for awhile now. I did have an FL1995 with torn pleats but that was years ago before I knew about the issue with purolator.

Instead of those for $2 more you can get a full synthetic oil filter made in USA. What a gigantic oil filer with 1 1/2 “ threads.

I was looking at it as well but the filtration isn't that good apparently. "ISO 4548-12 at 46 microns" is what the website says so if I went with Purolator I would use the Purolator One "ISO 4548-12 at 20 microns" instead.

On Amaz the Boss in this size is the cheapest of the Purolators now. Boss doesn’t use the black glue complained about. I can’t speak to efficiency because have different ideas. Whip City shows pretty good media with his light spots test of the media. Full synthetic are not so common anymore since Fram changed the Ultra.

the boss is terrible at actually filtering. the easy route here is the premium guard based filter. carquest also sells a PG based 1995a replacement.

Man that is unfortunate.

I wonder if the Purolator One Uses the same glue?

Yeah the One's use the same glue so it's like.. who knows what is going on inside. This one apparently one of the metal end caps popped off : https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/purolator-one-pl14476-14-8-hours.385602/

Here is two other Boss filters: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/purolator-boss-one-good-louvers-one-bad.394893/

Here is another recent Boss with poor louvers and a pinched adbv : https://www.mustang7g.com/forums/threads/purolator-boss-oil-filter-quality-control-problem.164928/

Well Purolator is a no go which is disappointing.

99% @17 microns, wire backing, made in USA $22

Premium guard
maybe 20 microns, no wire backing, made by Uncle Xi or Uncle Ho $20

Why is this still being discussed?
