motorcraft filter good for 2oci

This idea of whether to run an oil filter only once or not is fascinating.

If I have read correctly, Honda say twice is ok. In which case, they are also not concerned with the mixing between two potentially different additive packs due to the small amount of oil left in the filter (added to the amount also left in the engine).

The irrational / perfectionist side of me wants as much new oil in the car as possible.

However, I think age may very well persuade me to run Fram Ultras.

The service manager at the Honda dealer and I always get along real well. Very nice guy which is hard to find in that line of work. Never refused giving me a free loaner while the car was getting simple maintenance done. He said as long as one is available I can use it to grab lunch. He's been there a while but when I inquired about not changing the oil filter his response was NO, gets changed every time.

Years ago when I asked him about the $100 fuel system cleanings that some places were offering he just said told me to pour a bottle of Chevron Techron into the gas if I wanted to.

Regarding the multiple FCI, I have done both without concern.

BOF you would be proud to know I have a Fram Tough Guard on the Chrysler Concorde on it's second OCI and I am gonna run it for 3 then cut and post here. It'll have about 12-13k on it by then.

I am not concerned the engine on that car is clean and it takes a quart of top off during an OCI anyway so leaving a bit of old oil in the system at change is not much of a concern.

But in your case since you went with a 10K OCI it makes sense to change the Ultra too since you wouldn't want to do 2 x 10K OCIs on it.

Seriously Z06, what filter do you have on your Z06 engine, and the oil brand and type you use in it? What is your OCI mileage or do you have a monitor? That would definitely be one engine that I would NEVER use a USED oil filter multiple times for an OCI.

The Z06 didn't get a ton of miles on it per year, so the oil and filter got changed based more on time than mileage. And the only car I ever did 2x OCIs with a Fram Ultra was on the Altima which has a super clean engine inside.

Why? Both the oil and filter that you have on your truck is good for 15K--especially with all of the highway miles that you are doing...

2010_FX4, being that I don't have to drive to and from so many doctors now I thought that time might play a factor in my next OCI. The route I am going now it will most likely take me 2 years or more to reach 15K miles. Would it be ok to keep the current OCI for that amount of time? Still, about 90% of my driving is all highway miles.

I would probably cap it at 1 year, but with 90% highway miles, I am betting there would still be TBN at the end of the year

. We will know how Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 fares in my FX4 soon. I have 13K on this run thus far and I have a trip to Key West planned for the summer. I want to push it to 20K so I may sample it after the Key West run.

Blue, the Ultra will do that but pick your lube carefully 2 years and 15k would limit your oil choices.
