How about if we let the owners and their rice burners use the oil filter as many times as they want, and those of us that want to buy cheap insurance and use a new oil filter every OCI, do so? Are we all agreed?

I'm of the opinion that filters are under utilized and have a greater capacity than will be used a the recommended interval. Also a filter becomes more efficient for filtering the longer it's in use. This of course is contingent on the condition of your engine just due to the fact that he's on this board asking the question, I'm going to assume that he takes care of his vehicle I.e.keeps up on maintenance. In this case he most likely doesn't have an overly dirty or sludge motor. I think he should go ahead and leave it for the rest of the oci.

I have done multiple OCI's on the same filter never a problem but I am not a big fan of it either. Honestly it makes more sense on a cartridge filter because 1) the cartridge doesn't hole old oil and 2) you can easily inspect the filter and view it's condition.

Filters filter better to a point the longer you use them. So a filter used twice is actually keeping your oil marginally cleaner.
On a non-sludged engine, most filters have so much filtering capacity they could be considered overkill.

My FU WILL be replaced at or near 10K miles with a NEW oil filter at the next OCI.
