I agree. I would leave it and change it at your next OC.

One Filter, One OCI!

We've used Motorcraft oil filters on our 96' Crown Victoria for the last 8 years - Not one problem!

No, its idiocy. Your saving what 5 bucks and not even doing a complete oil change. I think this is one of the worst BITOG made up ideas that has persisted lately.

Made up ??

Honda has been recommending using oil filters for two OCI for years.

^This!

I'm unimpressed that Honda recommends 2 oci's per filter. But then again, I'm unimpressed with anything Honda.

Both above comments are opinions. 1 oci per filter. 2 oci's per filter. etc.. Does anyone have anything claiming one is better than the other? Nope.

I used low end to mid range oil filters in my 21 years old 370k miles LS400 since 1998-1999, the FCI was/is once a year, the OCI was/is 7-10k/6mo with conventional and 14-20k/12mo with syn. The engine consumes 1/2 quarts every 3-4k since new, I added 1/2 quarts with conventional oil at 3-4k then change at 6 month. I added a total about 1.5-2.0 quarts with synthetic oil and change at 1 year.

The low end filters were Fram Extra Guard, Purolator Classic, STP and some house brands such as Pep Boys or O'Reilly. Mid range filters were Bosch Premium, Motorcraft, Purolator Pure 1 ...

If the engine is still running well after 370k miles with cheap filters for up to 20k miles, is it idiocy for using bottom of barrel filters for 2 OCI's up to 10k miles each ?

Here is the maint manual info from Honda for my 1997 Accord. Under normal maint it states - oil change at 7,500 - oil and filter change at 15,000

All the 70's 80's and 90's American cars I owned recommended oil filter every second oil change. This was about 11 cars.

The Purolator filters I had that tore were cartridge filters.

I, personally, don't like the idea, but that doesn't mean it's made up. Others have pointed out Honda's recommendations. I've also seen a fair number of examples of that recommendation in agricultural equipment over the years. I never followed it, but it's certainly predates BITOG.

I don't like the idea either ... I always change the filter with each oil change, but that's just my preference.
