I think this is the one that a lot of people have been waiting for. I know I have. Use period of this sample was over the summer. 40% towing about 6500 lbs in the Colorado Rockies. Outside temps high 90's to low 100's. AC on everywhere I drove. 60% highway and 40% city. Towing was done on the highway and through the city. Pulled 5 12,000 foot passes. Engine rpm's in the 4000 range on some of the passes. All mountain driving was done while towing. I mistreated this oil the best I could without giving myself a heart attack.

We think alike, before I even read your response here, I had planned on just saying WOW myself! What more can you say, this oil did great under such hard use!

Like many others here, my heart is with the heavier oils. Facts like these are very confusing to those that have their minds made up. Your report is a strong argument in support of the 20 weights. Was this a change or just a mid run check? I would think a synthetic could go longer.

There is no "standard" Motorcraft 5w20. ALL Motorcraft 5w20 has "Synthetic Blend" on the label. It was developed by Conoco for Ford and is a blend of Group III and Group II+ base oils.

Another molyless 5w20 oil strikes again...

At this point, it seems pretty apparent that in applications where the manufacturer recommends the use of 5w20 oils, there isn't much to worry about. There hasn't been much of anything to complain about in recent posts on the 5w20's!

The "syn-blend" IS the basic motorcraft 5w20 found at Wal-mart for around 1.77 a quart. It appears all 5w20's are group II/III blends but only motorcraft chooses to market this oil as a synthetic blend. Though most other brands DO bump the price on the 5w20's to reflect the base oil content.

Nice, but 3000 miles? Hardly a test. Still see no reason to use this viscosity. Did you notice your 0.005% increase in fuel economy? Not trying to be sarcastic, but I still remain one of those that think that Ford can take their group 2/3 20wt. oil and cram it. I wouldn't use it for the kind of service my vehicles see in the winter.

It sure does look like Ford knew what they were doing when they spec'd this 20wt. and had it mixed for their brand name and as per their requirements. Nobody can say you babied this stuff...that big v-10 and trailer, in those conditions.....excellent!

Thanks for posting the results!

Two strong performers from what has been posted here so far.

For my next change in my Ford from the current M1 5-30 to-

Motorcraft 5-20 @ $1.77/qt
-vs-
German Castrol 0-30 @ $4.98/qt.

Tough choice on performance but on price, Motorcraft makes 3K changes cheap.

I initially had some doubts about 20wts, but over all felt they would be fine as I don't think the automakers and lube engineers would recommend something that would be bad for the engines. I didnt however think they would be this good! I think so far the 20wts are proving to be the most consistant oils out there! I hope mine looks good. Sent it off today. Very impressed with them. There hasn't been a bad report yet with 20wts which I find amazing. Flow, flow flow flow flow.....

Film strength is weaker but if the oil is flowing like molasses using a thick oil and isn't reaching the parts as quick or isn't transferring heat as well, then it becomes less relevant. Just a thought.

I actually bought some of this oil months ago and I just planned on using it as a quick flush (300 miles and dump it) in my Nissan.

Kind of a Rislone treatment but with detergents.

It actually looks like pretty good stuff.

"Flow, flow flow flow flow....."

Buster you have been paying attention to my reads for you !!!

Conoco builds a fine motor oil.Tried to tell all that on Noria 4 years ago !

While one test is not the end all to a theory , I like thinner weights and high quality formulation, depending on application, mind you.

Mscales, if you want 0 insolubles add FP to the Fuel.

This will allow longer drains on this oil and filter combo.

Just my 2 cents.
