You guys think they will keep going up? I need to buy some HPL no VI 10w30, but dont need it for a few months.....but Ive already seen them increase prices?...

We are definitely in uncertain times with two of the 14 trains of the GTL plant being destroyed in Qatar as well as the Saudi Aramco refinery in Bahrain. I have been told the refinery will be down potentially for a year’s time and the GTL facility being a one-of-a-kind facility in the world may be down as long as five years. This creates roughly a 20% vacuum in group 3 base oil production globally, which has to be filled with another material. I believe that people that are not raising prices are doing that strategically and have sufficient inventory, which is also admirable. We have been receiving daily price increases from suppliers and it’s on almost every material we buy. Even if everything geopolitical was solved tomorrow it’s still gonna take one and five years respectively to get these facilities back online. I don’t have a perfect crystal ball, but it just about has to affect pricing at some point across virtually everyone in the industry.

There you go folks. This reply is all you need to know. If you see a good deal today you should probably get it.

This will be an interesting year to see how the majors deal with increased costs. They can cut marketing, cut advertising, cut promotions with retailers, cut rebates...and of course raise prices. I know during the few years I worked for a major manufacturer of retail products, a price increase was usually the last resort. We watched what our competition did...if we raised prices and they didn't follow in a few months, we would increase promotions and rebates. If they raised first, we would usually follow suit.

Out of curiosity, how much are people spending on motor oil per year? I have four vehicles on 5k mile OCIs and I spend $225 per year on motor oil. That's equal to two tanks of gas in the Tundra and hardly a make to break for most people who presumably have fewer vehicles.

Yes, more coming April 30, for base stocks, so retail soon to follow.

Tacoma - once per year -> 5.9L of on sale oil usually $40 worst case + $20 filter = ~$60 cdn / year
Impala - once every 2 years -> 4.73L of on sale oil usually $30 worst case + $15 filter = ~$45 cdn / 2 years = ~$22.50 cdn / year
AMX - once every 2 years -> 4.73L of on sale oil usually $30 worst case + $10 filter = ~$40 cdn / 2 years = ~$20.00 cdn / year

You are completely correct. I have four vehicles and in the grand scheme of things, it if the jugs go up $8 more, it just really isn't meanful. That is like 14 jugs x $8 = $112

I really don’t care about the cost increase. What I care about is the quality of the products suffering. It sounds like some ingredients that made certain products stand out are literally not available. Suboptimal substitutions are likely to be made.
Some of us remember post-hurricane-Katrina-blend Mobil 1 that didn't officially meet API specs. They said something like "Suitable for API SM".

Kirkland 5 qt jugs are $13.50, as much as you want, for another couple weeks.
