Motor oil helped solve a murder!!!

I just finished watching an episode of Forensic Files where a bottle of Valvoline motor oil was used as evidence to help solve a 1st degree murder case. The guy used the cap to lodge in the carburetor after he killed the guy and ran the car into the river. He threw the opened bottle in the trunk, and they linked it to the same lot in the guys garage.

FWIW, the back of the bottle said it was ILSAC GF-4 rated.

Isn't that exciting? Or do I just need to get a life?

For showmanship they probably recreated the incident with current stock oil.

CSI once found a drip of motor oil, they analyzed it as AGIP something-w-40, "only used on lamborghinis" then they caught the guy etc.

A few drops of oil on a driveway could determine whether the getaway car had a gas or diesel engine.

The neighbor who reported a red hatchback helped the police narrow their search to a 1999-2003 Golf TDI. The oil was Mobil 1, not recommended for newer models.

DMV said there were only two red Golf TDIs in the county.

Now I'm sitting in lockup, trying to tell the detectives that I didn't do it. It must have been that retired lady from Oceanside!
