Anyone used Motomaster Formula 1 before? made by Shell.

Huge sale this coming week, 50% off, 21$ for a 5L.... a steal!

Any of you used it before?

Yes lots have used it before on this board myself included.
We do have some UOAs on Motomaster oils.
BTW I'd take the 50% off claim with a grain of salt.
21 bucks is a decent price (I've seem it as low as $14.99 in the recent past) but you can get name brand oils in that grade routinely on sale in the low to mid 20 buck range so it's not a "steal" just a good price.

Im sorry but, you wont find 5L of synthetic oil lower than 21$, not in my area anyways lol

The 21 bucks is BEFORE taxes.
In my province you then add 13% sales tax for a total price of $23.73 CDN.
Motor oil generally is more expensive in Canada and it has nothing to do with taxes. The oil formulator just charge us more because they can.

5L of conventional here is around 22$ + tax.

So to me, Motomaster Formula 1 at 21.99 + tax is a steal, not even wal mart sell syn that cheap.

+1 Things like tires, or auto parts, could be made down the street from me, but still cost more in Canada than the US just because they can get away with it.

Yeah I think we get diffrent flyer over here

I just selected a halifax store flyer and I see the same thing as before. This must be a huge YMMV and only available in stores with excess oil in stock.

I have heard this is re-bottled Formula Shell synthetic. Also given the prices for PCMO's in Canada you have found a good deal. Formula Shell oils are very good I have used them for many 10,000's of miles.

I have F1 synthetic in my car this past fill. I can't see any reason to complain about it. I have seen it for like $15 as well but I believe I paid around $20 for my last jug as well. it's the only time I will buy any oil product from CT.

I'd be tempted to buy the Formula Shell (synthetic or otherwise) straight from the distributor. Canadian Tire's regular prices are absolutely ridiculous, and chasing sales from them is a fool's errand. Shell's regular price on Formula Shell conventional is about the same as CT's sale price on their Formula 1 conventional. The synthetic is a bit more than one would expect, because the distributor only sells it in 1 L bottles.

Im tempted on picking up their 0w20 Formula 1 syn oil.. it is also 21.99, which is good. I may also just wait to go to the USA and get a bottle of M1 EP 0w20... not sure what specs it has.. I emailed Canadian Tire.. and yeah.. they dont reply.. anyone have an MSDS or TDS for the Formula 1 0w20? Wondering if it would make a good choice to use from Nov to April.

Chasing sales? Canadian Tire's regular prices are laughable.. but they always have some kind of sale going on.. and if all you need is oil.. I seen QSUD, and M1 on sale and many others on a regular basis..

I don't know how many more times you'll see synthetic in the low $20s here anymore. Have you noticed the new regular price on PP at CTC? $51.99/5L now! Regular sale price now is $32 and change, QS being a buck cheaper.
The F1 seems like a good deal. I posted a UOA for another member a little while back. Have thought of running it myself although I just picked up a jug of PP on sale to go in the Charger. Maybe I'll try the silver jug in the G6, been thinking of putting it back on conventional anyway.

I had given up on chasing sales but its not that though, flyer comes like clockwork every week and its on line, I just start looking a couple months before I know I'll need it and grab it when the sale comes up.

Garak , I wish I had access to the distributors like you do. I don't believe there is an actual Shell or Imperial dealer locally, we do have a private oil supplier but I don't know how eager they are to deal with the public. I know my experience with PC was pretty good but their hours make it tougher to get there than CTC for sure.

If they do answer you won't get much from them. I was told there is no TDS for their products. Your best bet is to post on the product Q&A page, I've actually seen some numbers posted there. Your choice to have faith in them or not I guess.

In fairness, their stock when sales are on is getting better. The issue before was that if something started on sale on a Friday, you had better be there on Friday morning, or you were getting nothing. Imperial Oil's warehouse is closer to one of my businesses, and the Shell warehouse is closer to my residence.

The "chasing sales" issue is exactly why I haven't bought oil from CT in a few years. I don't know how many times I went there on a Saturday to find everything cleaned out. I'm assuming they got a pile of complaints about that over the years, since the matter has improved. Nonetheless, I still haven't forgotten and have found alternate sources. If they want my business, they're going to need a confluence of circumstances that include me needing exactly what they are offering on sale, them actually having it in stock at a time that's convenient for me, and them having an incredibly attractive price.

The pendulum has now shifted, though, and Walmart is doing the low stock rollbacks. They seem to advertise the specials a lot less lately, too.
