Hi all,

The reason that I posted this was apparently near me a Baked Potato restaurant opened. I've seen baked potatoes as a side but this place makes it the main entree. They offer sides to go with their baked potatoes. There are a two dozen topping options, and looks like a neat concept. Has anyone else ever been to a restaurant that seemed like an odd concept but works? I'm curious if this place will make it with all of the restaurant closings. Add in they took over a previous restaurant spot, and the Safeway store anchor closed a while back.

We have that here too, it’s a couple of different locations that go by the name Potato Bar and it’s really good!! Lots of interesting toppings and sauces and proteins that they put on top of either a smashed baked potato or french fries

My favorite was in China. bowling alley, shrimp fishing combo. You catch the shrimp and choose one of three prep methods (very good). I don't exactly love bowling so I ate a lot of shrimp!! The shrimp ponds, all indoors were at one end.

a Potato ONLY place seems weird.

Rudys has one you can have and an entrée (huge - add your choice of meat and cheese) and also McAllister's has giant spuds.

Do you like BBQ Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, or do you like it Cajun style? Shrimp, Crawfish. On top of the potato. With any variety of sauce. A potato is just a delivery device.

Soon it will be Sweet Potato with oven toasted marshmallow season. 🤤

I was in SoCal 5 years ago and there was a Chinese dumpling place that made every type imaginable. Different fillings, different skins, fried, boiled, steamed, was very interesting. I definitely ate way more than I would if with my family.

Also in China, in Beijing, a mushroom soup / hotpot restaurant. The menu was all of the varieties of mushrooms. The table had a recessed burner in the middle. They brought you a pot of broth, heated it, then added one of your mushroom varieties. A few minutes later they returned and ladled out bowls of the mushrooms and broth. They then topped up the broth and added the next mushroom. Rinse and repeat through the list of mushrooms that we selected. It was fascinating to see how the flavors changed through the meal.

Piz Gloria, Jameos del Agua, Ossiano, Cuma Çukurcuma, and, of course, the Madonna Inn with the Copper Cafe and Bakery and the Gold Rush Steak House for being extremely lurid Does Taco Bell Cantina in Linda Mar count? They have a fire place.

Baked potato restaurants are becoming more popular. They dump a TON of toppings on them and make a full meal out of them. Basically it’s a ton of butter and cheese and bacon and whatever else you want. Probably close to 1500 calories or even way more.

I haven’t been but I have seen the videos and it looks very tasty. Would be a nice lunch occasionally.

In Mexico I ate in a restaurant that was located in a cave. Quite different.
You'd probably love Jameos del Agua. Located inside a natural grotto, the restaurant was designed by legendary Spanish Artist César Manrique. Should you visit the Canaries, put that place on your dining list.

Reminds me of a place called the "Olive Garden." They serve mostly spaghetti. I make it at home when I'm broke, why would I go out for it?

On the topic of baked potatoes, look for recipes for "twice baked." They're basically like Devilled eggs-- you bake them, scoop out the starch, mix it with cheese, chives, onions etc then put it back together for a little more time in the oven.

I saw a place like that on Food Network not that long ago. I think a dumpling restaurant in Denver just closed.

Naw it’s an ancient concept
One potatoe two has been around forever

Late 60’s early 70’s potato only restaurants started popping up and later filling malls.

As the malls died so did the franchise.

Oddly a dry baked potato was one of the first “fast foods” going back to their introduction in Ireland and later Scotland. If you were poor with a stick you could pick up a baked potato .m

Lucky to be salted, butter was a luxury.
