I had guests over and kept it simple. Steaks, asparagus, baked potatoes. My cat Smoky that went off to stay with my university-bound son returned along with my son some months ago. Neither Smoky nor may new cat Tigger seems to mind the company and they have been getting along fine. That's why there is a gratuitous cat picture.

Big cats=Big steaks? j/k
Now I'm hungry.

That’s nice. Do you use an insta pen type thermometer or do you do the finger poke. That’s medium rare which I like. I see some cracked peppercorns too. Well done steak should be illegal.

I got a calibrated finger. 🙂

That was supposed to say Wiener dog. I'm starting to wonder about this year's Thanksgiving. With the beer bug on the loose I don't expect a large get-together this year. It will probably be just me, my son and his girlfriend. What are everyone's dinner plans for Thanksgiving?

Our family is going to pretend to be from Germany and not speak English. We will endeavor to stay the weekend with a strangers family and wear out their hospitality.

I wouldn’t last too long as a chef in a steakhouse. “I asked for medium well this is well.” “I asked for rare this is medium rare, take it back.” Yea, I would hang up the apron and walk out. I do like using a cast iron skillet for a sear and then an oven finish. When it’s too cold to grill outside. I salt and pepper generously. I use a “butchers cut” of black peppercorn. It’s a coarse blend. To each his own.

Yuck just looking @ it! It should be grey.

I don't regard grey as a particularly appetizing color. What you think is blood is not blood. The red stuff is an iron-rich protein called myoglobin that is part of what makes up muscle tissue. There is no myoglobin in blood. Should any of that red liquid drop or flow onto your plate you can just mop it up with your veggies. Mashed potato will work well. Is pink food okay with you?

My mom grew up during the depression. They ate whatever they caught and cooked it well to kill any parasites. Then she had me and fed me the same well done food. She used to say "It is not cooked unless it has been on fire!".
