Mmm, yeah. I parked in a not-good place while doing a MAC transaction. I came out to a woman standing next to my car. I thought she was going to "B" to me about semi-blocking her in. When she said "I hit your car" I thought she was kidding and had a good sense of humour, a creative way of complaing. Nope, she backed into the side of my rear bumper, knocking it off it's tabs. I was happy there was no real damage. I told her that I'd look at it when I got home and if it went back together, no problem. Afterall, she was honest, so I do not want to tax her (save that for someone who tries to get over on me). I reallly thought the car was 100% ok, but it looks like a portion of the wheel well is bent inwards and the caulking is cracked. This area is covered by the bumper, I plan on re-caulking it and bending it back with the caulk wet to seal it up. Hopefully, the bumper will go all the way bck into place and not sag like it was after being hit. It tested ok, none of the tabs are broken. I might have the shop look at it, but I am not looking for perfection, "close to perfect" is the standard I am applying. Does that seem fair? She was nice and honset... she even called the Police on herself to get a report. I was nice too, even apologized about blocking her car. How often does that actually happen in this instance???

You were there first. She should be glad you weren't a person with a kid. One may not back without looking first, basic driver's ed. Not filing an insurance claim was very gracious.

I'll go ahead and ask the question that's on everyone's minds..was she hot?

No, just a live and let live attitude that wasn't going to let his day be ruined with shoot from the hip reactions. The real bold moves.

She probably gave you a fake phone number. Women can do some excellent acting in a pinch.

Just kidding - it's AMAZING she called the police. Contact her and let her know which way you are going. Get a pro estimate to let her know the high end and then come down from there.

Was she hot?

A case in point on what Pablo's saying:

Several days ago a letter appeared in the Norfolk daily from a man whose car was critically damaged by a woman in a van who cut in front of him in traffic on the interstate and hit her brakes as she did. She motioned to him that she was going to pull to the side of the road. He followed her and stopped, but she kept going instead, leaving him disabled on the shoulder as she drove ahead on the shoulder and merged back into traffic. That's felony hit-and-run here. She had done a great job acting as if she were going to do the right thing. As so often happens, unfortunately, he was unable to get her license plate number. His damage was over $3,000.

Many women have the attitude, "It's only a car." So hitting another vehicle doesn't really matter to them. They'll keep going so they can go shopping or whatever.

Auto-Union, you were incredibly fortunate.

Ol' Auto-Union acted in a classy manner. Just hope taking the "high road" doesn't backfire but it happens.

If involved in a minor wreck with minimal damage it really helps when the hitter informs the hittee (me) that he wants to pay for the damage NOW and lets go to that repair shop right there and he will pay the highest estimate in cash NOW.

It is also helpful when the hitter (him) admits to being invovled in a non-violent felony at the time!!!!

T'was the 70s in California and both of us conveyed the "long hair" image. The hitter pointed to several large grocery store paper sacks on the backseat floor. I just knew what was in there and there had to be 2 or 3 pound's worth.

Well, he paid for a bumper and $100 extra for other costs. I then asked for a couple "lids" (age showing here) to sweeten the deal. Sure!!!
Four-finger size.

The hitter was appreciative and happy about how all turned out. We drove off waving, never to meet again.

Never did replace the '75 Civic bumper with the minor bend in the middle.

Kept hoping he'd hit me again, could make a career out of that.

Hit me....man. Ha, she was far from hot. All the info was legit, the Police took it down. I fixed the damage up today. I had to bend the lower rear of the wheel well back out, so when the bumper was re-attached, the top of it near the taillight went back in. I recaulked the crack, all the metalwork is tight, no missing or broken tabs on the plastic. Everything re-aligned...within specs. I did loose a grommet but will replace it. ALL IS WELL>>>DO NOT PANIC! (is what I'm telling myself)

Similar thing happened to me... My BMW was parked in the lot at my old apartnemt, and one guy who insisted on backing into the spots he took must have gotten too close and surface s****ed my car.

The scratches were deeper than a fingernail, but not down to the metal. My paint was quite nice for 15 years otherwise.

He left a note as I wasnt home, and then came to see me and tell me what happened when I was. He was willing to pay for all damages, and was very straightforwards about everything.

I compounded and waxed it... the scratches are still slightly noticable, but for the most part are gone. I never went to get it repainted (which was what he was offering to do, at the shop of my choice).

Maybe it was this woman holidaying in the U.S?

A 34-year-old saleswoman was caught driving down a Swiss motorway while she was using her laptop computer and chatting on a handheld mobile phone, police in north-eastern Switzerland say.

The driver said she was unaware of any wrongdoing and responded that she was "driving like I always do", police in the canton of St Gallen said in a statement.

A police patrol pulled her over on Wednesday afternoon after they saw her car zig-zagging along the A3 motorway near the town of Murg.

The woman was remanded to a Magistrates Court because of her "unreasonable behaviour", police said.
