MolySlip E - Yay or Nay?

Thanks for the heads up...

I think I'll do a cheap oil change and add, maybe 10% of the can. Once it's had time to work into the motor (500-1000Kms) I'll do a decent oil change.

Ok, just stop, don't add ANY of it into your crankcase.

If you want moly, get a can of valvoline engine protector at Canadian tire.

You are doing nothing by adding this **** so don't even go there.

It is complete junk in a can and if you can't learn from my experience, you will be deemed a fool.

Hey
Blazer how do you know that the moly plugged up your filter and made it go into by pass ?,

I have used this product on about 4 different cars., the one that bennefited the most was my 2000 honda civic 130,000kms., I added 1/2 can with fresh oil and filter. Within 200kms of use the cars oil consumption stopped completly, that and the gas milege went up 2-3 mpg.
I never had any filter problems. Or new/extra start up noises., All the engines felt smoother.

It takes about 2+ hours of driving to plate the moly on your engine.
The only time I would not use it would be the winter, stop and go driving. Moly does not do well with condensation and water.
But in the summer I say go for it.

I bought an 05 altima, that I intend to use Moly-slip with , once I rack up some more kms.

you could use 1/2 or even 1/4 of the can, depending on you sump size.

Because when it peggs my oil pressure gauge to over maximum and then starts cold start knocking when it hasn't done it before, you bet your keister it is plugged.

It is a junk product that does nothing, I never noticed any difference other than almost killing my engine.

It plugs your filter within 500 miles of putting it in your oil, so little of it actually make it to your engine seeing it all collects in the filter.

If you saw the grey metallic mess in mine you would change your mind.

Moly disulfide has no buiness in an engine.

I have used it on a number of times, as well, put it into a number of friends cars.
maybe the full can you put in is too much .

I have never had any problems, nor herd of any problems from my friends.,

oh well maybe some engines dont like it .

All the ones I have put 1/2 can into ran smoother, and got better milege ?,

If your filter was indeed full, would it not just go into by-pass mode ?, and your oil pressure stabilize ?,
Did you put in an after market oil press guage, or did your truck come with one ?.

When I use it I find it actually helps cold starts , the engine starts faster >

I have a pressure gauge on my dash and it was above maximum and would flicker from that to 1/2 and back up.

MolySlip actually thickens your oil so starting faster is all in your head.

I have been using it on turbo charged Acura 1.6 for 200 000 kms at least (the car currently has 260 000kms). I have never had on issue. I also use it in my wifes 2003 Impreza, still no problems Blazer if your oil filter can filter out 0.5 micron particulate you have the most efficient filter that would only ever survive a single pass. Most oil filters, 10-20 microns. Out of curiousity, how does Molyslip thicken your oil?

I say go for it.

If you use a good quality oil, the AW additives in the oil alone will protect your engine just the same. You are wasting money. NAY.

Moly slip is in a 10-30 oil, it does not contain any thickeners ......
The faster start up is not in my head....., it is what I noticed on a few cars.

I think you got a bad fram filter, and it was not the product that made your filter fail.,

did you open the old filter and take pictures ??, you took pictures of everything else....

yes the moly makes your oil black, anyone who used the stuff could tell that.,

lolol, no, it wasn't the filter, it was the grey **** I moronically added to the oil which plugged it up.

Learned my lesson there. No more impulsive purchases.

The Fram filter was an extended guard which is nothing like the standard Fram filters. No cardboard, and it has a silicone ADBV.

Don't start saying it was the filter seeing the oil pressure was fine before I added it and it went haywire after.

MoS2 is not small enough to pass through a good filter and will just accumulate in the filter until it goes into bypass.

first, extended guard filters do have cardboard end caps, go to their website and check it out, or cut one open and see for your self.
you are correct on the Silicone ADBV .
And the shell is a little thicker, and there is an extra screen insode the filter for any large particles.

and second, according to the makers of the product they claim a .5 micron particle size, 90% of full flow filters are in the 15-20 micron range.

The only thing that would have a problem filtering the moly slip product would be a by-pass system , those filter 1-5 micron particles.

Oh well bottom line is you had a problem running it in your car, I , as well as other have run it for 100' of thousands of kilmeter's with bennefit.

Oh for cripes sake it has metal end caps.

Oops, sorry dude,
I thought we were talking about the tough guard.,

You dont see any extended guards at wallys world in ottawa.,
all they had are the reg/the tough guard/ and that one with Teflon.

How much is the extended guard ?, $10 ??

Was $8.99 and then went to $12.99 at Canadian Tire.

It got too expensive so I wait until Quaker State or Valvoline Maxlife go on sale there and stock up.

Regardless of all this, BlazerLT who is a respected member here (not saying you other guys aren't) had a very bad experience with this product.

Not to say its immediately horrible. If It was me and I trust BlazerLT's experience and I still wanted to try a can, I'd get some and send it to BlackStone labs and have them analyize it.

Then i'd mix up some with Motor Oil of your choice and have another analysis preformed.

If the first two come back A-ok, then run it for 1500 miles and have a UOA done.

Safest bet, kinda pricy for the product and all the UOA's but thats EXACTLY what I would do.
