Hello all. I have a 2002 GMC Sonoma with a 2.2 4 cylinder.
I'm curious Ive been running castrol gtx 5-30 and does this oil have alot of moly in it? I take it has a pretty robust additive package? Ive been running it for 3k-5k oci's. Is 5k about the limit for oci's with this oil. I currently have 105k on the clock with no problems. Thanks.

I run GTX 5W30 in my Jeeps for the winter. I've always liked GTX and it is considered a great oil here (although it IS a little pricy for dino). I'm not sure on the moly content. I would say 5000 miles is a good OCI number. That is what I try to do on my vehicles, except my trail only Jeep, which sees seasonal beatings and less than 1800 miles/year. On my vehicles, I ran a 3000-3500 mile OCI and then had a UOA done to see what my options were. My daily drivers could probably go to 6000+ mile OCI's and that would be fine. If you're not going to try a UOA, then stick with 5K.

Very Low moly in most versions. Just run a search of GTX on the Used Oil or Virgin Oil Analysis sub headings.

I run it in my 2002 Cavalier, the only oil I have run so far that has had NO consumption whatsoever in 5-6k mile OCIs. Engine runs smooth and strong - I think it is an excellent oil. I would stay with it!

5-7500 is about the limit for any dino. If you want tons of moly (a worthy goal, I suppose), you should pedal on down to Advanced Auto and load up on Havoline. Running about 1.60 on the closeout. High enough flashpoint to compete with Syns, lots of moly, SM and GF4 approved and (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the 5W20 has one of the better cold weather pour point numbers in a dino.

May our beloved Havoline R.I.P. I'm loaded with PP from the Home Depot Pennzoil purges and I STILL bought 24 quarts of closeout Havoline.. Nothing lasts forever, eh?

Don't mean to jack your post, but what OCI would you guys push on 5w30 PP?

Car is a 97 VW jetta with aftermarket Stage II Turbocharger, Tracked every weekend, and road raced every 3 months or so at road atlanta. I don't do many short trips, although there is alot of traffic down here.

Our beloved Havoline will never R.I.P. Advance is still going to carry it in the new formula.
