Model Y L launched in US

A post on X from Tesla's official account indicated that the Model Y L has been launched in the US and Puerto Rico.

But at $61,990, I'm not really a fan. I hadn't expected that much of a premium. It's $20K more than the basic Model Y.

The price point is perfect. It theoretically competes nicely with the new Highlander and EV9/Ioniq 9 offerings. We obviously don't know all of the dimensional details, but if they're in the same ballpark, I don't see why they won't sell like hotcakes.

The Launch Edition is loaded. Prices will come down. Depending on demand, of course.
I wonder when they will be in the show rooms? I will keep an eye out; there's a store a few blocks away that I go by all the time.

Also, the color and interior options are generally all one price at launch. That will change.

Well the one good thing about the Launch edition is that you can choose any exterior color, wheel or the white interior without upcharge.

That said I'm not going to be a buyer at this price. I will wait for the lesser versions. I was hoping to look at this to replace my Lightning around Christmas time as I need to turn in the Lightning by Dec 24th. We really need a 3 row more than we need a truck. But $65Kish OTD with delivery and taxes is a hard pill to swallow. The Launch model is not available for lease at this time either.

I like the HyunKia models but the ICCU failures are a major turnoff. I won't buy a Toyota new in Texas as the distributor Gulf States Toyota is crooked and has been as long as I can remember. Every Toyota on the local lots has $1500-$2000 in distributor adds. I wouldn't do it in 1995 when I was fresh out of college and I won't do it now.

Spot on. Price is a highly calculated business decision. One would guess the Launch configuration and associated price is designed to take advantage of pent up demand and early adopter buyers. That little Launch badge is gonna cost ya!

I am curious to see prices when the "lesser" models appear. And leasing...

My daughter's EV9 looks huge compared to this model. I'm 6ft 240lbs and comfortable in the third row. She has the GT-Line model and I believe got it for $54k after incentives.

This is the 3rd row of a Model YL. EV9/IONIQ9 aren’t nearly this compromised on space.

I remember when "Launch Edition" was a dirty word, it meant you were getting something without all the kinks worked out.

With advances in tech happening faster than body style refreshes, I wonder if it'll eventually mean "you didn't get as much as the next guy."

Good marketing for the early adopters though.

"Eventually" started with our 2018 Model 3 Mid Range. Nice car, by the way...
You probably know Tesla continuously sends out Over the Air updates. The cars are constantly changing. I got v. 2026.14.6.12 and FSD v. 14.3.4 yesterday.
