Mocal knock off, deleted the short pressure relief spring, it doesn't close all the way shut as you would want it to do with an oil cooler, thermostat is stamped 82c 180f, there is practically no flow through the bypass filter until the engine oil heats to 180f, then the thermostat closes up the passage, with two guages I used in previous posts, it's showing a good 5-7 psi differential in the 2200-2500 cruise rpms, there is no pulsation in the hoses that I had with the ball/spring adapter.

Using a finer 0-60 pressure gauge I see a constant 6 psi at 2200-2700 and it will elevate up to 10 psi at oil pump relief, there is 0 psi differential at idle which is a low flow rate, but it picks up by touching the throttle, the ball/spring adapters may be slightly superior in this regard as they produce flow at low flow rates, overall this adapter is working very well, possibly could be an aid in engine warm up as cold oil is not being forced through a cold filter.

I picked up another Mocal knock off for a spare, this one doesn't have the pressure relief spring? Whoever installed the thermostat had the aluminum piston in backwards? Also the main spring is oversize with overkill pressure. I put it in boiling water and the thermostat closes all the way shut, this one won't be as easy to make it work for a bypass filter, maybe by shortening the piston? I think I will use it for spare parts, the part number for this one is SW7 and I do not reccomend it, the one I am running now is SW05, it is a higher quality piece.

The small spring I deleted is not for pressure relief, it adds more spring pressure to push back the wax motor from being fully extended , so the heavy single spring in SW5 is what I should be using, or shiming the original spring for more pressure.

I needed to open a drain valve in the bottom of the Motor Guard to change the roll with the Derale adapter or it would get very messy opening the halves without doing that, with this adapter I didn't use the valve, just slowly opened the halves untill I saw a bit of oil, air got in and the filter drained, no mess! Put in a new roll, tightened the lid, added 3/4 quart fresh oil, turned the key and started the engine, was waiting for the dreaded 5 to 10 seconds of no registered oil pressure, the Derale relief valve would send all the oil to the Motor Guard to fill it first, nope! It held 40 psi right away, the thermostat was open to feed the engine, nice.

I bought a second SW05 from Aliexpress, the first one was off Amazon, it came yesterday, same light blue box and part number, open it up and it's this machined adapter, not cast, must have ran out of the cast ones? I deleted the small spring and tested it in hot water and it still closed up, I think the best thing will be to run both springs and let it close all the way and drill a relief hole, I think Ralph drilled for 1/4" years ago, should get me in the ballpark. I'll drill the ugly SW7 adapter and experiment with that one in case I go too far, the billet adapter is kind of nice.
