I cut this open as I used one last year and was curious about the extra weigh, seems it from an overly thick threaded plate and nothing more. Was surprised to find the filter ends dirty with something, I'm not sure what. It rubs off easy.
The USA made wix 51515xp I have cut apart is much nicer.

Thanks for the C&P. I actually threw one of these on the bot I acquired over the summer. Does it have louvers or holes in the center tube? I believe these are still the M+H made 301As. I've checked Walmart, parts stores, and other places for the newer ones. The only place I could find that carried the 301A with the newer manufacturing was Rural King.

I'm not so excited to cut open mine here in a week or two now, haha. 😅

It has dual facing louvers, some don't look open all the way.
Yup the old M+H made disaster. Black glue of death, no extra charge.
Ah didn't realize this was " normal" 😕
It does say made in USA.

Yep, it's the old version M+H made Mobil filter. From the louvers I can see in the photos, they actually look pretty well formed and open. Don't know why some of these filter makers can't keep the potting material in the right place and off the end caps where it doesn't belong ... it's all done by robotics, unless they moved manufacturing to Pakistan. o_O

Excess glue & is all too common unfortunately. The newest model should be a different manufacturer & better quality if it has a clear wrapper seal around the oring inside the box.

Well you bought a Purolator filth filter.

Current M1 filters are Premium Guard made.

Anyways, nice cut and post. Thank You sir

Current M1 filters are Premium Guard made.
Actually they are under Highline Warren (they are mentioned on Mobil's filter website), which as no association or connection to PGI. Yes, they have similar design and construction, and maybe even made in the same factory.

However, it looks like Prime Guard and Highline Warren have a connection. So the new Mobil filter is more like a Prime Guard than a Premium Guard (which is PGI).
