You want to see a fancy (different?) filter - cut open a japan-source toyota denso with the foam media. Dont know how well they work other than: better than the thailand sourced denso.

The core dia looks a bit large though the base-end bypass looks to take up less space than the dana/wix units. It would be great if some one opened the can with something that DIDNT put particulate in the media then the OP could perform a solvent wash down of the media and get a weight and paticle size count etc ... otherwise not much to see unless it was a junk filter that fell apart.

ARCOgraphite, I was just curious to see what was in my wife's Avalon oil filter by "eyeballing" it. I get your point, but the goal for me wasn't to get a detailed analysis of "particle count etc", just to make sure there was nothing of major concern inside the can.

This is a champion made filter, much like the classic ST and Acdelcos.

The ONLY similarity is they are all made by Champion Labs, beyond that little similarity all at. M1 has no cheesy rubber combo valve, of feltlike endcaps. Ecores not even in the same class with the extended OCI M1. That said, at ~$13 it's out of my league pricewise, unless perhaps on a oil/filter combo promo offer.

Thanks for the pics.

Fun to see what's "behind closed doors", I have cut open a few myself. You can find photos and studies of most filters cut open on the web, but sometimes that's not as fun as getting dirty and doing the job yourself

So just what do you get for the extra 10 bucks? What size filter is it? For those that steel end caps are everything, the ST 3593A still has them along with the PF 1127. More media? Hardly looks like it. Better media? Could well be.

At least all your money stays here.

The MOST I've ever paid is $8 for a Mobil 1 filter. Just wait for a good deal and you don't need to pay $13 for one.
