Mobile 1 Oil Filter Pics

Mobil 1 #102 Oil filter, wife's 2004 Toyota Avalon at 40K miles, 10K mile OCIs.

Vehicle use: about 70% Highway, 30% City.

OCI History (new filter with each oil change):

5K: Bulk Dealer 5w30 conventional, unknown filter.
10K: Mobil 1 5w30, Mobil 1 filter
20K: Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, Mobil 1 filter
30K: Same (this is the filter in the pics, just removed)
40K: Same

Filter assembly seems well made with the end caps. Nice heavy outter canister. 10,000 miles is no problem for these filters as I have been using them since they first came out in the 90s.

Looks great, nice uniform pleats after 10K. Looks like its handling them with ease, from a construction standpoint.

Looks just like the one I took off and cut open last time on the Accord. I've noticed the pleats keep uniformity very well.

This is the first filter I ever opened, I guess it looks OK as far as the amount of contaminants it caught (??) As expected, I assume.

BTW, it was a pain in the butt to cut open, so I ended up threading a plastic plug into it (I used a propane bottle safety plug, drilled a hole through it, and added a bolt), chucked it up in my drill press, and held a hacksaw to it as it spun.

Even after all that, I still had to pry it apart with a screwdriver, definitely a solid design.

I used a dremel cutting wheel. Seems to work good on thicker cans. On mine, it seems to make a big difference on which direction you are cutting too.

You can get them in the AAP oil deals going on right now. 5 quarts of Mobil 1 oil & this filter for $28.

A Large tubing cutter works good w/o adding all the grit into the mix. BTW, If this was an E-core or Fram would it be expected to be disintergrated?

Bigmike, I started cutting it with a Dremel, but I'm out of the good cutting wheels with fiber in them, and the thin wheels break if you sneeze on them!

Edit: I don't have a tubing cutter that big!

This is a champion made filter, much like the classic ST and Acdelcos. Good filter, thank you for the pictures.

Ah, the good ole champ labs - Makers of the Lee Maxifilter IIRC?
The core dia looks a bit large though the base-end bypass looks to take up less space than the dana/wix units. It would be great if some one opened the can with something that DIDNT put particulate in the media then the OP could perform a solvent wash down of the media and get a weight and paticle size count etc ... otherwise not much to see unless it was a junk filter that fell apart.
