Gang, With all of the Super that I (and many of you) recently acquired (thanks again KCJeep); what are the general thoughts about 5K versus 7.5K OCIs with this oil? I plan to run this in my Azera and Elantra [provided my daughter does not turn it into a 10K OCI wink ]. Mobil states it will go 5K, but with the fuel dilution that happens in these two cars (especially the Azera) due to short tripping, I would be hesitant to go much past that. I suppose that I can UOA one of them to know for sure, but I was curious as to others experiences with this oil or what the rest of you think.

uoa it @5k and see how it is. then make a determination from there. its the most logical advice i can give you. its from mobil so i`m sure its a good oil.

I am running mine 7500, but I do add about 1.5 quarts during the OCI. Headed over to AZ today to stock up on 5W20 got all of O'reilly's 5W30 last week.

I have 52 quarts of 5W-20 and I guess I should stop there, but it sure is tempting to get more smile

The 5W20 is a little harder to find.

With the exception of one store, all of the 5W-20 was in the back and I had to ask for it. The one store that had it on the shelf told me the O'Reilly deal did not apply to quarts until the Assistant Manager stepped up to the plate.

Dave, you are correct and the kit is only available in packs of 20 (which is not so attractive to me). Since fuel dilution seems to be an issue on my Azera (due to driving conditions and not the engine), I will probably just set my OCI at 5K and call it a day. However, does the additive pack in oil combat this or is this better handled by a synthetic? Both PP and QSUD were starting to whine at 5K about the dilution, but I was not sure if a different additive pack is the answer or if there was no answer other than changing the oil at 5K. Please give me your thoughts.

I used Peak conventional for 6-7k in S2000 and LS400 without any obvious problems, Mobil Super 5000 can do 5-7k OCI in a clean/good engine easily.

Here is the long story. I changed my buddy 2009 matrix 2.4L with Castrol gtx dino. He drive for 4600 miles. 80% local driving.I drained the oil. Oil is super black and thick.. No good. O'Reilly didn't have 5w20 for $10. So I bought walmart mobil super 5000 for $13.97, using toyota oem filter. I will check oil at 3000 miles later and see what happened.. costco should carry chevron supreme 5w20 ASAP.

Without testing it how do you know this with any certainty? When I changed the F/F oil in my ATV, I would have bet you the farm it was full of gas (I even smelled it--or so I thought). The UOA showed no fuel in the oil, so my "seat of the pants" analysis was totally wrong. I am not saying that you are wrong, but it really requires testing to know for sure. I have ran PU in my FX4 since birth, but I am seriously thinking about trying a run of Mobil Super in it and doing a UOA to see how well it does. I can always switch back if I do not like the results. $15 OCs are really appealing versus $30 and if I get the same life out of it...why not?

came on man. I know. Castrol gtx dino run 4600 miles. 70% city. especially city driving, I am changing my buddy matrix 3500 miles OCI.

Here is the reality: Depending upon UOA service used, the costs vary. Perhaps from $15-$30. Depending upon what "sale" or rebate for dino oil you can find, the costs will vary. It is very likley that you can simply OCI for at or near the cost of a UOA. If you want to KNOW with certainty, then you'll have to do a couple UOAs. You'll have to pay up front a bit more money to potentially save money down the road. After all, you are considering running 50% futher (5k to 7.5k miles). That is a huge shift in cost savings. Or, you can trust the OLM. GM's OLM protocol has proven to be fairly reliable. I can tell you that I'm doing 7.5k miles in my car, but I don't have DI. My UOAs prove that Ford's fixed 7.5k mile OCI is very conservative; I could easily go 9-10k miles per my UOA results. However, I choose not to risk it due to current warranty. After that, I'm probably extend my OCI past the OEM OCI. What's nice to know is that in my situation, there is plenty of "safety factor" already in my OEM OCI. If fuel dilution is a concern and leads to short OCIs, then dino oils are typically a "better" deal because you pay less for what you throw away, contrasted to synthetics. No oil is amune to fuel dilution. Fuel will affect FP and vis with equal aplomb. I cannot tell you which is "right" for you. I can only remind you it would be foolish to extend your OCI past the OLM without a UOA. It would be my suggestion to get some successive UOAs, and then you'll likely be able to make a clear decision.

I have always found it odd for a guy to be changing another guy's oil lol (assuming when you say "buddy", you are talking about another male). I can understand if you are getting paid or if he has some type of handicap...I guess I always had the mind frame of jacking up the car and showing him how to do it on his own. That's exactly what I to my brother when he first started changing oil. I told him he is a man and should do this on his own lol!

Lol! I completely understand where you're coming from. I "help" my friend meaning he comes over and he uses my tools as I chat and joke with him without doing anything to actually help.
