Mobil EP in Acura Type S--highway miles only

I have an 03 Acura CL with the Type S engine ( higher horsepower) and 6 speed manual. I use it almost exclusively for road trips with engine running about 2500 RPM. I am using Mobil 1 EP--5-30-with a filter change at about 5,000 miles. Can I safely run 11,000-12,000 miles between changes?

What would you recommend?

Is your Acura still under warrenty? I would check and see what Honda says is the maximum drain interval-my '04 Accord VTEC-4 is 10,000 miles. From what people are saying about the M-1EP, I would think it would do it but you do not want to run the risk of being in violation of your warrenty with Honda.

The only way to tell is by UOA, if you are spending $25-30 for the oil alone, why not spend another $30 just once to see what works for you?

I am using 10,000 mile oci's with my car - no problems to report.

A good 5w-20 dino will yield you equally good results for much less $$$ at a shorter, 3-5K service interval.

Oldwolf- are you using the Mobil 1 EP which supposedly is good for 15,000 miles? and still changing at 10,000?

I figured that Low RPM highway miles and changing 3-4,000 miles before the 15,000 mile level would keep me plenty safe

Unless there's some design flaw in your engine that's punitive on oil there's no reason under that type of service (under the confines of your description) that you can't go beyond 15k. Naturally, as others have said, a UOA would either calm ..or confirm any anxieties.
