How come there isn't much talk about Mobil Clean 7500? If the Clean 5000 is such a good conventional, and Mobil 1 is such a good synthetic, it would seem to follow that Clean 7500 would be a favorite, as well. However, I can't seem to find hardly any talk of it on here.

Is it because it isn't that easy to find? I've only seen it as another one of those Pep Boys "exclusive" products. None of the AAP's, AutoZone's, or O'Reilly's in my town have it. Is it the price? They were selling it for $4.99/qt. But I've also seen Syntec Blend selling at this price. I've been considering a new 5w-20 to start using, and with my driving conditions/style, I've been looking at MotorCraft Synthetic Blend, Syntec Blend, and now the Clean 7500.

Mobil 1 5w30 is a synthetic blend

I think its price and availability, and the ignored middle child, IIRC reading in the past, outperforms its pricier sibling AFA engine wear goes. Use it/try it if you plan on taking the oil between 5.5K and 7.5K.

This reminds me of a thread I once read from a guy who worked for one of the oil analysis companies. Cant remember his name, some of you who have been here a while may remember. He always stated how Valvoline Durablend (syn blend) would outperform Mobil 1 in terms of wear protection.

Pep Boys runs it as you stated but the problem it sells for $5.00 and you can buy the new Kendall for that price. New Kendall is syn. so why a blend when you can buy a full syn???

I totally agree with this. I don't know why they aren't priced inbetween what conventional and syn sell for. Synthetic Blends are really a complete ripoff and it goes back to the GF5 discussion, and I guess GF4 for that matter as conventional oils of today are practicly a blend now compared to what they were years back. They have to be given the longer OCI's recomended by auto manufacturers.

It's difficult to know if a semi-syn is a good buy or not, because it's hard to know what percent of "syn" you're paying for. I think most would agree that there is no guarantee that a semi-syn is a 50/50 mix. For example, I think the MotorCraft is more like 20/80 or 30/70?

If you can get a semi-syn for a good price (such as MC at Walmart) it's probably worth the investment. If the semi-syn is closer to the full-syn price, the ROI is probably not met.

It really all comes down to performance for the dollar. And, most people under-utilize their oil, regardless of base stock and blends.

Mobil 1 is not a synthetic blend. Mobil 1 is a fully synthetic oil. Mobil Clean 7500 may be a syn blend but Mobil 1 is a full synthetic.

MC7.5K most likely has a goodly % of PAO to make it a syn blend. IDK what is in the kendall mix, but if no group iv or V its not syn in a chemist's book**, though it may be marketed as one. So the Mobil 7500 may be MORE syn then the kendal.

** I would call GTO process syn though I'm on the fence about slack wax - though its a good darn tootin' base stock, Right Johnny?

I still have yet to see this 7500 creature you guys talk about..

I spotted the elusive beast at my local O'Reilly's last night. Only two quarts though, and I didn't see a price posted. Perhaps they were orphans from an earlier litter. . . .

Ran in to Walmart last night, and decided to take a look in the oil aisle (big suprise, right?)

I have now come to the opinion that synthetic blend oils have had their day in the sunshine. Except for Motorcraft, there was not one "Synthetic Blend" oil on the shelves. It was all dino, full synthetic, or High Mileage oils. I was a little bit suprised, at first, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. I agree with everyone that you just simply can not trust buying a blend when you've no idea what the synthetic-to-dino ratio is. The manufacturers would have been wise to put this on the packaging, but we all know that would never happen. Also, with conventional oils being so good nowadays, and the price of blends being close to full synthetic, I guess it just doesn't make a lot of sense to go middle of the road.

I think there might be confusion using "MC" to mean "Motorcraft" and/or "Mobil Clean". Wal-Mart here sells Motorcraft for $2.77/qt, and the Mobil Clean 5000 sells for $2.57/qt.

Here the mobil clean 5000 is 11.00 for 5 qt jug, motorcraft was 11.50 for 5 qt jug. The only thing is our wal mart didn't have any motorcraft 5 qt jugs the last time I went only qt bottles. I hope they are not getting rid of the motorcraft brand like they are Quaker state.

As I stated earlier

To me it just seems like Mobil segmented their oil line a bit TOO much...does anyone have the retail prices of a qt of 5000 vs. 7500?? How much more could the 7500 be? Regular Mobil 1 is approx $4.60 per qt when purchased in 5 qt jugs...Unless the mobil clean oils are approx half that, why even bother?? Remember the cost per mile people!!

I keep hearing the 7500 is Mobil's best 5w30. We need someone who runs the M1 consistently with a series of UOA to run the 7500 and UOA it. That's not me.

Ok at Advance regular price of Mobil Clean 5000 is $2.99 and at Pep Boys the price is $5.00 for Mobil 7500. Again I say why not buy Kendall/Motorcraft Full Synthetic at $5.00??

I have mentioned this before.
For any reasonable OCI (at least 5K), the difference in cost per mile is vanishingly small in comparing any OTC oils.
