It seems weird to me that Mobil will give mileage guarantees for the regular and synthetic blends (Clean 5000 and Clean 7500), but not put one on the regular Mobil 1. Call me paranoid, but are they trying to hide something?

If the Clean 7500 is good for 7500 miles, then Mobil 1 should at least be guaranteed for 10K miles. Just my thoughts.

Mobil 1 0W40 meets the MB 229.5 spec for 15K OCI's for what it's worth.

their commercial says 15k for Mobil 1.

15K guarantee is for Mobil 1 Extended Performance. They are not saying anything for the regular Mobil 1...almost like it doesn't even exist.

Look at it this way:

You buy Mobil 1 5W30 Non-EP. It costs you $4.32 at my local Wal-Mart. For your $4.32 you get one heck of an oil, and it will very likely last 15,000 miles under highway driving conditions in a sound vehicle.

As as alternative, you can buy Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30. It costs about $1 more per quart at my local Wal-Mart. For the $1 more you get a better additive package, and you also get a warranty that it will perform to 15,000 miles under certain conditions in a sound vehicle. Part of your $1 premium buys additives, part of your $1 premium buys an extended warranty on the oil.
