Got some new stock including Mobil 1 at my CT the other day. Was looking at a bottle, and it now says on the label ‘guaranteed for 24,000km’ (15k miles). It was SQ/GF-7 labelled. Up until this, ‘regular’ Mobil 1 was guaranteed to 10k miles (16,000 km). Thing that is weird is Mobil 1 Extended Performance in Canada is guaranteed to 25,000km (16k miles)…unless new bottles of it will now be rated higher?

Agree with above also, and I would not leave oil in a vehicle I cared about for 15K.
If I was driving 1000 miles a week I would have absolutely no problem running an oil for 15,000 miles, with used oil analysis to back it up of course. Although I would not do it with this vanilla Mobil 1, I’d do it with EP.

The only way this oil makes 15k is in the bottle riding in the back seat. Find the disclaimer in small print (Follow manufacturers oil change recommendations)
That makes good sense, it's the same marketing conundrum as Mobil 5000 being "allowed" to go 7500, 10k, or per OLM. How do you market something as suitable for OE replacement if the OE says go longer? You don't want to self-sabotage one product to promote the "better" one.

This. I think many people forget how easy long highway miles are on oil. I could easily see most SP or SQ oils being able to handle 15k miles if they were long, easy highway miles. 1000 miles a week will get you to 15k in less than 4 months.

more than likely just marketing.
Market positioning, which is a huge part of marketing.

What Mobil wants more than anything is to have 25 flavors of their oil on store shelves so they build market share and push Castrol etc to the side. They just have to gingerly not shoot themselves in the foot by contraindicating themselves and manufacturer directions.

used oil analysis would be close to the cost of the oil.:D
Your point being?

You do one used oil analysis to confirm that the oil can go 15k and then you don’t need to spend that used oil analysis money every time

At the same time, a 15k oil change regimen combined with a used oil analysis every time is still way less than wasting money on 3k oil changes…
