Mobil 5000 or PYB?

I have tried both...Pennzoil Conventional 10w30 is smoother and quieter.

Maybe spend the extra couple of bucks and go with Pennzoil High Mileage 10w30 for it's better attributes...a bit thicker and more additives.

This. Neither one is going to let anything happen to your engine that the other one would've prevented. So use whichever is cheapest. Both are high quality conventionals, so it doesn't really matter which one you use.

If you're itching to try something new, then go get some Pennzoil Conventional and try that for a couple OCIs, and see which one you liked better.

You've made my day. I thought that just fishermen overstate their results, but drivers do too.
BTW, on -47C or -47F gas loses the ability to evaporate. So no one oil could help you. This is a main reson why people install block heaters. Oil heating is important, but supplementary.

I would be curious to see what the engine looked like using Pennzoil Conventional in those same conditions.

Excellent example of marketing, thank you very much for posting.
Did you pay attention which parts of engine were shown? They avoid demonstration of pistons and piston rings. This makes me think that this oil fights sludge, but not high temperature deposites. BTW, pay attention on 2:34 time line. ;-) They made a mistake demonstration this.

I aam not saying that Pennzoil Conventional would work better. But don't trust ANY kind of advertising movies. They are not lying, they just don't tell you the whole truth.

Exactly! They only tell you what they want you know/believe .

Mobil is usually cheaper, both will do the same job. Financially, the Mobil is probably the better buy, but use whatever tickles your fancy. I have used both and don't see a difference in either in the past.

Not to throw a wrench into the equation, but how does Valvoline conventional compare to the other two? Walmart has Valvoline conventional on sale for the same price as mobil 5000

THANK YOU!

I'm new here so I didn't want to point it out.....
if your thermometer reads -47 and your gasoline vehicle starts unaided, your thermometer is about 8 degrees off.

I just saw that oreillys has Havoline for $16.95 / 5 quart jug. That is the same price as the Pennzoil Conventional in my area. I looked at the PQIA stats on it and it looks REALLY good. Better than Pennzoil Conventional. Im leaning towards the Havoline now.

Darn, I like the old Formula better too. Unless Im mistaken, it still has more moly than Pennzoil conventional though.

I like Chevron Havoline as well. I don't believe you can go wrong with any of the discussed oils (Mobil Super 5000, Pennzoil conventional, Havoline). Also, like another poster mentioned, Valvoline Conventional is also on sale at Walmart right now.

I see the way this is going. Tommorow I will walk through the front door with a 5 quart jug of each. What do you do when you cant make up your mind? Buy them all! Boy, wont my wife be excited...

On a serious note, I haven't been too impressed with the specs on Valvoline conventional, but for $14, it wouldn't hurt to try that too.
