No huckster forced my into purchasing the EAO filters.....I just had a senior moment and bought into the "hype" that was prevalent on these boards when the EAO was first introduced..... I wanted to find a superior filter, head and shoulders above what was available "off the shelf", and was willing to pay quite a bit extra to do so-

An EaO is designed to match the service lengths of the oils. Before the EaO there was an intermediate service interval for the filter. It was allegedly to replenish additives. As the oils advanced and other evolutions made such intermediate change outs unnecessary, the requirement of a YEAR/25k-35k filter was a sensible evolution. One less service point in a year's time.
Current field testing indicates that other filters, that are not designed for that level of service longevity, filter better at lower mileage intervals. I would think that when testing a 25k-35k filter against others, that you would take the opportunity to evaluate all filters over the extended service length ..since you evaluated the EaO over a short service length.
..but then again, that would be fair ..and we can't have that.

Why not make a standard filter twice as large?
Can't a regular filter with a bypass filter do the same thing as an EaO?
What fun is not changing your oil for 25-35K miles?

For a "shorter extended drain" (keeping BITOG standards when regarding "extended") the EaO may not be the best choice.
I haven't gone 20k for a long time ..but one year is a good run, I'd say.
You have to reason this stuff a bit. I think PureOne is a great filter. The only objections that I've seen have been for the dome end bypass and a few issues with noise on a very few engines. You've got to weigh any criticisms of it against the millions of units (at least hundreds here) who DON'T have issues.
For example, for a customer who wasn't going to do at least ONE YEAR, and/or also wasn't going to do more than 10k, I probably would offer them the WIX (which I also sell). At some point below that, I can still offer someone ONE YEAR service intervals ..usually, but I can only do it if the alternative is more frequent maintenance and higher costs.
