Mobil 1, make the switch to Extended Performance?

The reason that I'm blending is to use the "clearance, close out" oils that I picked up with the Kmart's in Florida last year.

I really loaded up with the 15w-50 and the 5w-20, M1, EP at these stores.

According to the Mobil 1 site, I should use 10w30, Mobil 1, EP, year round. So by blending the mix of the Mobil synthetic, problem solved. You need to remember..... since you can't always get what your want.....if you try sometimes.....you just might find that..... you'll-get what you need.

Suggestion:

Running Mobil 1 Extended Performance with a high-quality oil filter and changing both once per year is a good maintenance plan to follow.

One of the wonderful things about regular oil changes is that you DRAIN out contaminates.

I've used both, and done used oil analysis on both. In my world, there is no difference between conventional M1 and EP. I pick up what ever M1 is on sale. (note: here in hot S. FL, I generally chose 10w30M1, as it provides better used oil analysis and eliminates cam phaser knock)

In the aviation world, it's been proven time and time again that more frequent oil changes results in longer engine life, less sludge and less expense during overhaul. Yes, different than cars, but still illustrative.

I may have used more Mobil 1 oils of all types than anyone here for decades with 10K OCIs. I have used several OCIs with the EP varity in the past and found it to be very good. I know those that do 15K OCIs with EP with great success for many miles on their engines. However since I am using 0-20 now for 10K I see no advantage to using EP. If I were to break my habit of 10K OCIs then 5-20EP will be my choice.

All my Honda's had OLM. I've used nothing but Mobil 1 5w30 (even though the manual calls for 5w-20) EP with Purolator Gold filters. After a few OCI oil test with confident numbers, I went to the full 15K. When the OLM hits 5%, reset it. Next time it rolls around to 5-10%, I change it. Works.
