Mobil 1 Hybrid 0w-20

my theory in hybrid 0w-20 is it contains thicker end 20 oil to reduce the effect of oil dilution and higher TBN to deal with sludge formation.
Cold engine cause sludge formation, hot engine cause varnish oxidation.
However, i found Toyota engine oil consumption is often caused by caked piston rings from extended oil change interval. So, 5k OCI cheaper synthetic oil is better than boutique 10k.
 
Trying it in our 2022 Rav4 Hybrid which been in the crankcase for 3 months now. Too soon to tell but the MPG still shows 42 mpg.
 
I'm thinking of using this for my son's girlfriend's car that is a 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid.

26 bucks for a 5 quart jug seems like a pretty good price.

Throw in a $10 Microgard Select oil filter and it seems you should have a pretty nice oil change for 40 bucks all in including tax.
 
Just use Kirkland 5w-30. Im not trolling but giving good advice. If it hurts your mpg in a big way or the engine has problems with it as in trouble lights or noise than just go back to 0w-20. The "Hybrid oil" is all marketing.

If you want to get fancy than go with SuperTech Advanced which is.as good as Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

How do you know it's all marketing? I'm genuinely curious.

I'm not saying this may not be the case, but I can see a market for a hybrid oil.

I'm not an expert so I read reviews, watch videos, weigh in a company's reputation, etc. and just make a choice.

It also isn't my car so I'm more likely to stick with what is called out for in the manual unless there is compelling reason to deviate.
 
I’m not a hybrid expert but the ones I’ve seen have oil temps in the 160’s. I’d wager hybrid oils are formulated accordingly.

This has been a common theme on BITOG for a long time. And Valvoline Restore and Protect might be putting this notion to bed. A lot of folks are cleaning up engine deposits/varnish/sludge and restoring (not everything is just a marketing gimmick I guess) the internals to normal conditions. Engine design, operating conditions, and drain interval play a role but so does oil/fuel selection.

I’m of the mindset that TT fuel is a good investment over time and mid tier/level oils are the best starting point in oil selection (Castrol Edge, M1, VL Advanced, Pennzoil Platinum, etc.) Not simply the cheapest one can find.

Another thing we should all keep in mind and be honest about, the boutique /top tier oil users don’t seem to be needing Valvoline Restore and Protect. That fact holds sway.

We put 150k+ on a Fusion hybrid running Mobil 1 Annual Protection 0W-20 for 10k … what I found odd was you really could not warm it up just coming out of the neighborhood - it stayed electric - So, the first road was 45 MPH and the 2.0L had to grab that cold … Fuel and moisture are what these formulations target …

It's 0w-20 oil. it being "hyrbid" means nothing and is more of a gimmick. I'd rather use Mobil 1 Extended Performance, a euro 20 like castrol euro 0w-20 or Mobil 1 ESP 0w-20.
Maybe so, and I would imagine that a good oil like Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 would hold up pretty well to Hybrid life and short tripping. That said, you really don´t know what is in the oil from the PDS. While they may not be significant, (or may be) I´d bet they did indeed do some formulation changes based on the differences in hybrid operation. They don´t have a massive R&D and test program to just create new labels. We see that with Mobil 1 Truck and SUV. Everyone thought it was just marketing and it turns out, according to The Motor Oil Geek, there´s some performance difference and merit to it.

There are actually several brands making hybrid oil …
 
I owned and drove a Toyota Camry Hybrid over 10 years ago. Great economical car to have! Its one tough engine and did not need any kind of specialized oil. When it came to the Prius Ive seen taxis and Ubers with over 300,000 miles on them and running strong. Were those guys picky with the oil? Perhaps one guy was laboring at the decision of PUP vs Mobil EP...however everyone simply didnt care and I dont think.they were.too fussy about OCI.

So trust me....30 dollars for 2 5 quart bottles at Costco when on sale. Dont look back! As for Mobil Ive seen them do all kinds of marketing tricks but so.does everyone else and Hybrid oil is just like an arms company's pistols made for women thing. Just another way to sell you the same thing.

An engine that can do well with any oil isn’t evidence of all oils being the same.
 
I picked up a 3 pk case when Walmart made a price glitch I don’t think it’s anything special being labeled hybrids. I personally think it’s the same as advanced fuel economy Mobil. If you notice some other brands like Castrol is now labeling their oil suitable for hybrids. Mobil is a great product and has the capital for marketing and that’s what I think mobil hybrid oil is. If you find it marked down or on clearance buy it up otherwise any GF-6A or B oil will do.
