Ran the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter to 11,600 miles on Mobil 1 High Mileage with a lot of different top off oils: GC, Castrol Edge/Syntec 5w30, Peak 10w-40, Ultra 10w-40, Castrol Gold 10w30, and Peak 10w-40

Added a bottle of "ATP AT-205 Re-Seal Stops Leaks" to help oil consumption but its likely the PCV valve that is causing oil loss. Poured it in the last 2800 of the 11,600 miles before changing the filter today.

In: Super Mobil 5000 5w20, 2 quarts of Mobil 1 5w-50, and Castrol Syntec with Titanium 10w30.
Fram Ultra filter.

Any one in Phx want to cut it open for me? So that I can get photos.

Please post pics.

Is your engine clean. No deposits.

If so its a perfect representative of how easily one can extend filter change intervals.
I keep reading nonsense about guys using premium long life filters for short intervals, believing they are in some way providing better filtration but what they can't seem to understand is that they are paying more for no gain.

It's like running short oil change intervals. If you only run 3000 mile intervals
an inexpensive conventional will easily do the job. But using an extended life oil for 3000 mile intervals is a waste of money. It in no way extends engine life or protects any better than the conventional does at a short interval.
So they pay extra for nothing. Then justify it by saying something stupid like "it's only a couple dollars" or " the extra cost won't break me" but that's not the point.
It's like paying for good whiskey, then mixing it with pop. What was the point.

So please post pics if you can. If you can stretch out the media too that would be awesome so we can see the pleats unfolded.

Yes 2000 Dodge Neon motor is clean, no deposits, just Valvoline conventional varnish.

I was going to open up the valve cover today but had other things come up. Will do so on Tues or Wednesday, and post those pix on Thursday.

This filter saw: 70% highway miles and 30% stop and go.

Yes I like running my oil to 10,000 miles.

Before it's cut open I know I could have left it on for another 6,000 miles, in Phx which is the hottest year round city in the U.S. But I didn't for that it has been on and used for 14 months.

I love eyeballing filter flow restriction using photos of cut open filters - A great talent we have!

I have always gotten a kick out the "looks good, did it's job" comments.

Not to be an R's. You can assess the build of it and see if anything went amiss. I have My first failed WIX on my porch from a couple years ago that had a rattle in it when I took it out. Im guessing it it may be either a chunk of the engine found it way in (not at all likely) or, better yet, I suspect the assembly retention coil spring broke - also not likely. #3 souwl be the ADBV was installe off centre and pinched and the stack became loose.
Cant wait to find out. Hopefully the wife didn't toss it out.

Time to cut that thing open and find out ... your wife will thank you too.

So the reason why its dirty was that I didn't drain the filter every other month. Kept it on the entire 14 months and didn't change the oil, just top it off when was it was time to add more due to the result of the PCV valve causing the oil loss.
