Difference in IVD is how much of sulfated ash each oil produces.

Which approval limits the SA the most? ACEA C3 / Porsche C30?

I have to look at some of my notes but iirc, it was the byproduct of oil additives (metal contents?) burning with fuel and creating ash and not necessarily what was added. No?
Is the SA number (without considering the fuel) a good gauge for the IVD amounts?

Do you know the SA & Noack numbers? I can check for the approvals but do you know that also?
I don’t, but I think it’s shown well on the RU and DE oil clubs in informal tests for volatility. TBH I don’t really care about SA as I prefer as high SA as possible and not concerned about Noack for a Euro oil with approvals. No oil has been effective in preventing the need for walnut blasting on engines with high IVD like EA888 and N54. What I do know is the product manager for ESP X3 told me it was their most advanced product and advised it over the ESP 5W-30 where approvals overlapped. Porsche chooses it in the 911 where they could just use the 5W-30 as in the Cayenne if they were budget conscious.
 
That is if all things are equal. They are not.
These two oils have two different base stocks. If you compare older ESP 5W30, I would agree. New one? I am not so sure.
Good comments - even if you don’t live in an area where you need a 0W oil , the M1 0W30 ESP may be worth considering over the M1 5W30 ESP.

The question is what is sulfated ash production between two oils. Approvals set upper limits. Both are low-SAPS, but if we are really that nit picky, difference is sulfated ash production.

how come it has both porsche approvals from 2 different saps oils? C40 and A40
i know its not the first time we meet that but as we discussed several times all these weird previous years between 2015 and then for oils and changes they had to adjust, it is a mistake typo. is it ?

It’s on the bottle I have also. I have no idea how but they seem to be allowed by Porsche to qualify as a full SAPS oil. My suspicion is always that Porsche wants one oil so lazy dealers don’t need to keep FS around.
 
The ESP 5w30 is SP rated because it has below the maximum of Zinc and Phosphorus. The 0w30 would pass all the test but the amount of Zinc and Phosphorus is above the limit as it was designed for manufacturer specs not API specs first.
As far as the ZN PH is closest to API SL, but would pass SP ratings. On the ESP 0/30
 
Where would the differences show up between ESP X2 0W-20 and 0W-30?Is there a chart somewhere I could find the point where the viscosity spread with temperature?
 
Thanks for your reply. I have seen this one, sort of generic. However, this is straight grade characteristic, and I am interested in the 0W areas moving up. So it would by necessity require the grades of each specific oil to give an appropriate result, ie 0W-30 v 0W-20 ESP.

Yes, any chart for this info is going to be generic. Obviously this one isn't useful for other reasons, but really begs the question: what data would be "useful" in knowing?
