Those Eliott guys. They screwed up Southwest.Aramco would have both, Valvoline and Castrol.....

Yeah I've noticed that. They also noticed this with ESP 0w20 too. In a shear stability test, I'm not sure it's the same as counting PPM.check when the same sample has been sent to different labs. it's far from precise.

I suppose its possible but if you're taking a sample of the same oil and measuring it before/after and the after viscosity is higher, that doesn't seem like a lab error. They also saw this in the ESP 0w20 grade. It is speculation so I can't say for sure that's what it is but I think the Kurt Orbahn test is pretty precise.I mean the viscosity measurements. On a xW-20, 1.4% is the same as 7.5 cSt vs 7.6 cSt.
So does this mean that the ESP line uses esters GRP IV or V?The honeymoon for FS 0w-40 mainly ended when they reformulated and removed the ester content. Still good stuff, but not as great on paper as it was. I would still use it.
The ESP 0w30 still uses a blend of GTL, PAO and Esters. The 5w30 has switched from that formula to one without esters more similar to their standard lineup of EPSo does this mean that the ESP line uses esters GRP IV or V?
Considering switching to this after running my VRP for a few OCIs.
So what makes the 5 30 ESP ANY different than EP other than HTHS? Lower noack? Sorry just trying to understand. Really considering using it at some point. The ESP 0w30 still uses a blend of GTL, PAO and Esters. The base oil still is better than ep line with gtl vs regular group 3. Generally only the ep high mileage also gets GTL. The bigger difference is going to be in the add pack which is made for the stricter European car manufacturer specs which require much different testing than standard api testing. So what makes the 5 30 ESP ANY different than EP other than HTHS? This oil is on my radar possibly for our DI engine but I've read some people posting that ESP is "low detergent". How low is it?
Even though I do short OCIs, I like to have a good cushion just in case.
Marketing aside , I mean they put a 20K miles sticker on EP that I am currently using. Would they dare to put that or even 15K miles on ESP?
The better manufacturers approvals that 5w30 ESP have in comparison to 5w30 EP make it the better choice. So what makes the 5 30 ESP ANY different than EP other than HTHS? Lower noack? Sorry just trying to understand. Really considering using it at some point.
To be fair they met market EP for 20k miles but for most people it wouldn’t be healthy to use it that long especially in direct injection engines. You’re probably looking for like 6-7k OCIs and needing to get show to determine how much longer to go. I’d possible you could safely get up to 10k miles but you can’t just assume that without testing. This oil is on my radar possibly for our DI engine but I've read some people posting that ESP is "low detergent". People refer to low saps as low detergent at times. But its not really accurate as there are many ways to formulate detergents into oils these days.If both the 0w and 5w-30 ESP have MB229.51/52 approvals I’d find be hard pressed to believe they have “low detergency.”
It’s highly possible that Mobil is using some sort of newly developed organic chemistry to address cleaning / sludge prevention in the ESP line that doesn’t show up in a UOA.If both the 0w and 5w-30 ESP have MB229.51/52 approvals I’d find be hard pressed to believe they have “low detergency.”
You said that about PUPLooks like I'll be sticking with ESP for the foreseeable future.
No quite but close very close. You said that about PUP![]()
