OK, I give. Looked for this oil at Autozone, Walmart & Kragen. No go. Has anyone seen this grade for sale?

It looks to be the perfect solution for me, a single oil that meet the needs of my three vehicles. And I *thought* I'd be able to buy it from Walmart.

I'd use 0W-40 European car Mobil 1, but Subaru doesn't show this viscosity spread as a choice. They do show 10W-40.

The other two cars are out of warranty, so that isn't a factor.

My guess is that this will be the last viscosity they roll out bc it's simply isn't that popular anymore. 5w-40 and 0w-40 are the norm. It will be available though at some point.

Try here or here.

Most popular oils for DIY use in gas engines:

1) 10w-30
2) 10w-40, probably 98% is conventional oil for older vehicles. Most of the 10w-40 synthetic is for motorcycle use
3) 5w-30
4) 5w-20
5) 0w-40, probably 80% is mobil 1
6) 5w-40 "Euro" synthetics

Considering no domestic manufacturer has recommended SAE 10w-40 in over twenty years, the popularity of this grade is very surprising.

Not really... when you consider how many older vehicles are on the road. I seem to think the thinner oils of today consume more oil... especially at left-lane highway speeds So as a result -- as these engines draw around 100,000 miles, they start to use more oil. When that happens, most folks reach for thickers oils like the 10W-40s to help solve the consumption problem.

Just my opinion.... others may vary 180 degrees.

Not sure if Mobil plans on releasing this oil at all now. I've noticed in their new brochure, it stated that Mobil 1 EP is only available in 5w-30, 10w-30 and 15w-50 viscosities. No mention of the 10w-40 at all. This was from a brochure off a pallet at a Walmart near New Orleans.

FWIW I just checked Mobil's website. They still list it under the EP line. Since Mobils 30 weights are known for being "thin" I'm wondering if the 10W40 might be an ideal oil.

I wanna try it in jug form for blending down all this Mobil 1 30 weight I have. No SM spec but no diesel spec either pretty much makes it middle of the road as far as metallic additives go.

I wouldn't let that stop you from using it in your Subaru. I'll be running both it and German Castrol 0w-30 in my Subaru STi. Also consider Mobil-1 5w-40 (Truck & SUV formula).

I'm waiting on GC until the new 05 formulation proves to be as good as the earlier green stuff.

The 5W-40 T&SUV oil is a good suggestion.

Thankfully, I've got 10 quarts of "older" GC stashed away waiting for my switch over to synthetic. I may head over to AutoZone today at lunch to see if I can snag some more before the 05-variety hits the shelves.

This is the line up for the regular Mobil 1 not the EP version. The EP line up still lists 10W40 along with 5W30, 10W30 and 15W50.
