Mobil 1 better, same or worse?

Keep servicing with the Mobil 1 0w20. Royal Purple is a good product but you just can't miss with the Mobil 1. In fact I would advise you to skip the Mobil 1 EP (Extended Protection) and just use Mobil 1. That should save you a couple bucks. Walmart sells the stuff in 5 qt jugs for something around $24. How many miles between oil changes ???
If you're getting better than 25mpg, Mobil 1 should be good for an 8000 - 10000 mile interval. The Mobil 1 oil filter is made with a synthetic media which traps more solid contaminants than conventional cellulose media. It's made by Champ - a very good filter.

Where are you finding Royal Purple cheaper than Mobil 1 EP is at Walmart? Mobil 1 EP is about $28-$29 for a 5 quart jug, Royal Purple is $37-$38 for the same amount at Walmart, and even more at other places. I'd stick with the Mobil, I don't see where Royal Purple is worth the extra cost over other oils.

"Whether you buy the Walmart brand milk "great value" or you buy the most expensive brand milk, your gonna always pay more for the upper brand milk but it's gonna expire around the very same time the cheaper milk will, I utilize the same thought process with motor oil and I have been for over 35 years."

Now granted milk and motor oil are an absolute obvious day/night difference, I can't help but have this in mind when look at motor oil only difference in how I process it is that I want the best that I can afford for the only vehicle I have.
I've noticed that the majority of you guys have more than just one vehicle setting in the yard to backup one another in the event you have to take a different one anywhere. Again I only have one vehicle and I want it to last a very long time and running a cheaper oil in it just doesn't give me the warm and fuzzy. Maybe I'm a gluten for financial punishment when it comes to the oil i side with(Mobil 1 EP) but I don't mind it if I'm dumping oil prematurely I'd rather know that I have quality oil on a rock steady oci than oil that I can't remember the last time I changed especially when it's from the bargain bin wherever it was bought.

Listen up as this is the best way I can relate it versus your milk story.

EP is a 15k oil. You run it for 5k. Now letstalk tires. Isay I drive 5 thousand miles a year and need tires. Would I buy a 100k miles tire? It may ride worse, tear up the suspension, destroy the road- and anyway tou'll probably change them in eight years anyway.

I had 100k mile tires and the tread was still plenty at 100k miles, but it was like a seesaw or zig zag, it was not pretty and rode terribly!

That analogy doesn't work. That dog don't hunt.

You guys really need to take a break from this and enjoy life a bit. I literally made my mind up on keeping Mobil 1 hours ago and you guys are still going at it. Lol.

Let me pour some water on the fire a bit here...

If you could be a dinosaur what kind would you be?

Welcome to BITOG.

We wouldn't be doing our job if we stopped.

We have seven cars on the road, four of which are daily drivers and all of which see some daily driver use through the course of the year.
The oldest is our '94 E350, which we put 344 miles on last Monday and Tuesday and which is now on a daily commute and will be for the next week or so.
My point is that most cars built since the mid 'eighties or so are incredibly reliable and will give 150K or so of service with no trouble at all.
Engine problems related to oil choice or OCI are the least of any concerns you might have with any engine.
You want to use M1 EP on 5K drains?
Go for it.
You could just as well use RP, PP, PU, Synpower, Edge or QSUD.
Any of these oils will protect your engine well enough that it should outlive the Civic.

OP, RP and M1 are both great oils. Use whichever one you can get the best price on.

There is no harm in running it the full length of the OLM.

Regular M1 is rated for 10K miles by Mobil, and RP SN is rated for 12K miles by RP.

Run the syns at least 7500MI. Both are high quality lubes

Maybe we can enjoy life a bit when we all get it right

I never said anything about oxidation.

Navy,

I'm going to try and persuade you using logic.

1) The oil life monitor is not telling you any useful information. It's just a reminder, based on a software algorithm. Often including useless criteria, like 6 month calendar. (yes, calendar means little to quality oil with high TBN)

2) I don't see that you've posted any UOA results. Without objective criteria and hard data, we really are just "talking".

3) Honda engines are known reliable and produce few wear metals, even during very extended oil change intervals. They simply last.

4) The collective experience here at BITOG is, in fact, correct. We've been analyzing engines, oil samples, lifespan, sludge and varnish for many, many years. We "generally" understand exactly what works. 10K, with M1 EP will work perfectly and give you the results you want.

5) If you study some UOA results, you will find that in some cases, wear metals INCREASE with too frequent oil changes. YES, you read that correctly, the additives do take some time to become effective and robust oils (such as M1) often show FEWER wear metals PER MILE when proper OCI's are utilized.

6) Again, lets use facts, not speculation. The real "risk" of 5K OCI's is simply a bit of wasted money and resources. The benefit of 10K OCI's with M1 EP is maximum engine life, with minimal inconvenience. This makes your life better, which in my mind, is the goal of intelligent people everywhere.

LOL You're still thinking about this?

You've been here since 06 but taking advice from a troll?

I'm putting to much thought in to this. I should just pick an oil an run with it. I'm on the fence between the two.
