Mobil 1 "Advanced Clean" 5w-30

Not to mention the sky high flash points of the thicker grades of Mobil 1 Truck and SUV. That 261C flashpoint of the 5w-30 is I either the highest I've seen yet on any oil or within a couple degrees of the highest I've seen. Certainly near the top of any list of walm-mart aisle oils.

Granted, this is flashpoint and not volatility per se. such a high flashpoint would strongly suggest there's very little light-fraction hydrocarbons in that oil, and thus it would be extremely resistance to forming varnish and deposits.

That, combined with the RPVOT test seems to affirm that this oil could handle heat without varnishing.

At 440 miles a day, this is precisely the application that puts the "up to" in "up to 20k miles." This is basically the same "always warm, always running" application that lets hot shotters get a million miles on their engines regardless of what oil they use or what engine they have. One of the first "million mile" Cummins engines in a pickup truck ran dino Delvac on 15k mile OCIs in the early 2000s. Some applications are just cake walk for engine and oil, and this particular one where the engine runs almost all day from a single not-super-cold-start is top of that list.

Don't try running 20k mile ODI in your cold starting commuter getting only 25 miles each way twice a day from a cold start.
Good point! Some years ago (1990s?) Consumer Reports ran a long-term test comparing conventional oil to synthetic.

The test vehicles were NYC taxi cabs, which CR presented as the ultimate example of hard use.

CR tore down and inspected the engines after x number of miles, and, finding comparable wear, concluded that synthetic oil wasn't worth the extra cost.

Living in an area with cold winters, I was skeptical that an engine in a mild climate that was run almost always at operating temperature was subjected to worse conditions than an engine that was frequently cold-started and short-tripped, as is often the case here.

I remember that test and also felt the same way as you. I have never felt that taxis were subjected to severe service conditions because they have such long periods of operation at full temperature for each cold start they make. And there must be some big taxi companies that use the same cars 24 hours a day with multiple drivers so they may never have a true cold start for long periods of time unless they’re down for servicing.

Actually, getting 25 miles a day is pretty easy duty because it gets warmed up fully each time. Try a 5 mile commute where the engine doesn´t get fully up to temp for more than a few minutes. That´s the tough one.

I agree. I drive my little Honda Fit about 27 miles each way; work and back home. 20 miles are interstate.

So, full temp? Check.

No stop and go? Check.

Minimal idling? Check.

Using an oil designed for extending the interval? Check.

Getting several UOA to support the extending of intervals? Check.

What else am I missing? It’s not a turbo, just a simple I4 Honda engine and it’s minor fuel accumulation is within tolerance during the interval. After running Valvoline Restore and Protect for a bit, I plan to settle on yearly intervals using AMSOIL Signature Series; provided conditions remain the same. ;) :)

TBD, but this Mobil 1 Advanced Clean might be a good candidate for the job, too.

I didn't read through all of the posts in this thread but I found these pics of this Mobil 1 Advanced Clean on another forum (they purchased it at AAP):

So they added PAO to all 3 grades. They also say it can clean your engine in one oil change. Knowing that the oil has very low levels of Ca/Mg (mid sap) I suspect they use AN or something else to help assist. But with so many things available who knows....

It may end up looking just like the current Mobil 1 Extended Performance but with a different base oil blend that won't show on a VOA.

I noticed this too. That is quite the claim. Can't wait to see how it performs for people here. Looking forward to lots of loaded up oil filter pics.

I claim, I'm the best driver on the forum. :)
I run EP for at least 2 years now. Still have 2 jugs, both API SP, one from the 50th Anniversary.

I was just referring to this claim specifically (just "cleans"). I don't know Mobil 1 Extended Performance as well, but don't remember seeing such a broad claim on it (just sludge removal), so maybe I missed it somewhere.
