That should yield solid Xw-30 grade in theory.

Why is this statement increasingly being used to prove the efficacy of a practice, product or idea ?

Not against you personally, but it's the near universal statement of why something not optimal is OK/good.

it's not a subjective measure, like noise, vibration, fuel consumption etc.. I think that's the reason?

By buying one jug of 0w-40, I can get 2 oil changes by using up a jug that I already have on hand.

I am getting a different set of numbers.

Inputs:
First oil viscosity - 13.5 cSt
Second - 8.7
Desired - 10.0
Temp - 100 C
Result is 32.62% for first type of oil and 67.38 for second.

If you want "thicker" stuff, like Castrol EDGE Extended Performance 10w30 which I've used, then you'll need 64.5% of Mobil 1 0w-40. The "resired" oil is 11.5 cSt in this case.

I'm using 10.9 for the desired cSt (Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30)

Funny, I decided to try this mix in my Accord after I use up all this PU that I have laying around. I think this would be a great mix for "middle aged" engines.

Phishin: I'm surprised you haven't mixed some Mobil 1 15w50 and some Mobil 1 0w40 for your ole' Chevy truck hehe! I may put the mix I posted above in the girlfriends Cavalier after I fix the two leaks

Car51....Na, that truck burns too much oil for it to get anything that nice. Consumption is crazy.

So, what I actually do, is save the oil that I drain twice a year out of the Subie (Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck or GC) or the PU (5w30) out of the Honda, and I keep the truck topped off with this used oil. Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck, GC, and PU are all STOUT oils, and I only run these oils out to 6k miles before I change them out. So, there is plenty of life left in them.

I have a few jugs of Maxlife 20w50 that I got on clearance last year, and I pour in a virgin quart of this stuff every so often as well.

Only issue here IMO is the 0w40 uses different additive chemistry than the other Moibl 1 oils so I would not recommend mixing these particular grade. I'd use the 15w50 which does using the Mg/Ca combo.
