Mobil 1 5w50 SuperCar API SP (DexosR)

I'm kind of tempted to run this in my BMW S54 engine in the winter, but probably not since the HTHS is presumably a bit low vs the recommended 10W-60s.
Does BMW recommend 10w60 for the oil pressure it provides or HTHS over 5.5?
I’ll guess oil pressure, as the main and rod bearing clearances are likely no more than .0025 to .003 inches.
If I have my facts straight, more bearing clearance would result in less viscosity loss from temporary shear because the shear rate is lower with more clearance and higher with less bearing clearance.
Clear as mud?

Do I need the SUPERCAR 5w-50...

There is a supplement to your Ford owners manual for the Mach 1, whereby it requires oil changes every 4hrs of track time. This is because the oil will shear with track use. Always START your track days with fresh oil, but if you want to add a little street driving after, that's fine (assuming you didn't breach 4hrs at the track). However, remember that the oil in the sump after a track day is going have noticeably sheared, and you will want to change it sooner rather than later. I would not go 5k miles on track day oil, I wouldn't even go 3k miles.

Last I checked, the later model 5.0 performance pack Mustangs were recommending 5w30 for street and track. Assuming oil temps are kept reasonable, is there a particular reason you want to use a 5w50?

As for whether you "need" 5w50 Supercar, I'd say no. I don't need it either in my Gt500, I use it because the oil interested me. However after viewing numerous UOA's from people who track their GT500's with other 5w50 oils, I can't say Supercar is any better or worse. Motorcraft 5w50 also does well at the track, assuming one changes it every 4hrs as recommended.

My 2022 MACH 1 Mustang has a OLM/oil life monitor.
I have read quite a bit of information and talked with different people at Ford, Ford Performance, dealers, race shops, etc. my impression is that the Ford OLM in my car is based on blended oil = a range of 95% to 80% or so conventional oil!
So my reasoning and logic tells me that if I’m using any full synthetic oil that’s going to be Far longer lasting and better quality than a oil that is only, 5% to 20% full synthetic.
So I’m thinking if I just follow my OLM then my motor oil should be good, and my engine should be safe.
If I am wrong, please explain.
Thank you.

Maybe I should add I drive my car at times on VIR/Virginia international raceway and SUMMIT POINT at times.
So I’m trying to find a oil that I can put in the car before I do my road course track time.
Then rather than drain the 10 quarts of oil out again and put another 10 quarts back in as soon as I finish my track time.just put a high-quality oil in fresh before track and then continue to run it for Another couple thousand miles or whatever.
Changing 30 quarts of oil in a couple days and then throwing it away is hard for me to swallow.

If I understand all the reading I’ve done correctly. My gen 3 engine initially came with 5W 20 oil in it so even if my 5W 40 or 5W 50 motor oil shears down it’s still gonna be better than the 5W 20 that the manufacturer initially recommended and they have now since increased it to 5W 30 for daily driving.
My engine oil cap says 5W-30 on it.

The gen 3's in the mustangs always came with 5w30, that hasn't changed. They are 5w30 for street and track driving. Also, its not just shear, but oxidation from heat and overall additive depletion. Spend a couple hours at full throttle and high RPM, and that oil is spent. The OLM does not account for track driving, don't rely on it. Do you monitor oil temperatures?

The Mach 1 is well equipped for track driving, and there is a supplement in the owners manual for track usage. 4hrs on the engine oil and 500 miles on the differential fluid for track driving. You didn't forget about the differential fluid did you?

With all the costs associated with a track day, an oil change is by far the smallest. Keep your engine safe, change the oil. I dump 12qts of virgin looking 5w50 every track weekend, because $100 on oil is cheaper than a $25,000 Predator engine. I mainly drive at Circuit of the Americas in Texas, and that track is littered with the guts of various engines as its hard on oiling systems with long sweepers and high speeds.

My MACH 1 has heat exchanger/radiators for the differential, transmission, and engine oil.

Yes it does, they are very well equipped for track driving. My buddies with Mach 1's rarely have temperature issues at the track, and the coolers look very similar to what's on my GT500. You still need to change that differential fluid though...your first change, especially after track driving, will look NASTY.

Thank you for the heads up.
