Mobil 1 5w40 Euro

Went to Walmart.com thinking this would be cheaper than Delvac 1 for my generators … it was not … both D1 and M1 TDT sold for less …

Well that's a drag.

The USPS doesn't seem to like those Blackstone bottles. The last one I sent in was misrouted and stationary for over a week before it started moving again. I had written down the tracking number before I mailed it since I had that problem before. Not that you can do anything about it if they lose it.
I've always chucked them in the mailbox and I've had dozens sent in no drama. I don't even write down the tracking numbers...should start I guess. I'll give it a few more weeks then grab a quart and re-submit.

I believe it's two different products. If you check the bevo sheets on Mercedes for 229.5 and 229.3, on the 229.5 there is a Mobil 1 FS 5w40 and on the 229.3 sheets there's a Mobil 1 FS X2 5w40. So it seems like there's two different products. The real unicorn to get would be Mobil 1 Formula M 5w40. That's what the Mercedes dealers sell. Haven't seen it anywhere else.
You can get it online. That's the original MB oil before they started putting their own name on the bottle. Search Tom Massano auto parts in Pa.
So it appears that they now have 3 40wt oils with 229.5?

Do you recall Valvoline putting non MST oil in MST boxes? That caused a lot of confusion.
There's even more intrigue.

The bottle in the original post with MB 229.3 approval was "FS X2". The latest bottle with MB 229.5 approval is "FS".

Are their two different versions of this oil, FS X2 and FS? Or was there a delay in getting MB 229.5 approval when the FS X2 oil was first made available, although the oil actually met the 229.5 spec? Suppose the FS X2 actually was actually 229.5 approved - then why the name change???!!!

I'm incredulous that Mobil has done something as confusing as this. It seems that Mobil has either created overlapping products or they cannot even get their product naming right. This indicates a gauntlet of mind numbing departmental bureaucracy, a madhouse of corporate disorganization, or both.

Things like this makes you wonder what they actually end up putting in the bottle. I'm not impressed.

I was in my country town Wally's yesterday they had a bunch of this and it was still marked MB 229.3 only, no 229.5. I also bought an OCI's worth of the QSUD 5w40 which they were absolutely stuffed with. My suburban one can't keep it in stock. I guess farmers don't care for Euro oils.

So it's the same oil but now just has the 229.5 listed?

It's actually two different types of oil. There's Mobil 1 FS 5w40 which is 229.5 and Mobil 1 FS X2 5w40 which is 229.3. Look at the front of the jug for the FS or FS x2.

Yes bottles are different but are they actually just the same?

I bet we have stages of product release or development as I believe Wally's is only listing one item number for Mobil 5w40. I'd wager the 229.3 only jugs are older stock.

@TiGeo was your sample the 229.3 or the 229.5 jug?

In Walmart today and the Euro 5-40 was 229.3 only.

Spotted this at WM. Not sure if anything I have would prefer this over 0w40, but here it is.

Looks like it has mb 229.5 and Porsche A40 specs on it. Am at Wally World getting tires rotated and was going to start link before saw this one.
If you compare these two posts the UPCs are identical, the FSX2 appears to have been made October 16th 2020(J being the 10th letter means October, right? unless there's a letter that's skipped?) the new FS was filled March 16th 2021, so the FSX2 appears to have been obseleted by the FS
