Mobil 1 5w30 ESP - What is the correct application???? Benefit/Harm?

Interesting thread having just used this in a Peugeot diesel. I had been using Fuchs Flex 23, but the Mobil was cheaper on special and has better approvals. I have since found out that there is a P version that meets the latest PSA requirements, but I doubt it will be available in NZ!

The 0W-30 flavor, you can get on sale at Advance Auto Parts for $28/jug. I picked up a few jugs there to run in my Tacoma, which now has 246,000 miles. I had run vanilla M1 and M1-EP up to now. Interestingly, the 0W-30 is a bit thicker than the 5W-30.

EDIT: Well, that sucks. AAP has now excluded the ESP from the discount codes that used to work on it (ChrisFix25, 25JAN).

Anybody had success finding ESP on sale anywhere lately? I've heard of it going on sale at NAPA periodically, but I've personally never been able to catch any on sale there.

I was willing to buy ESP @ $28/jug, but it wouldn't make sense to buy it at regular price ($38.99/jug) for my applications, when I can get M1-EP on sale for like $12/jug with M1's yearly rebate.
Yes, at Walmart. They now carry the 0w-30 and 0w-20. $27.97 although someone said they got it for $25-something once.

Yep, read about it on here and bought some.

Currently running it in our new 24 Odyssey.

That 3.5 HTHS gives me warm fuzzies while I’m enjoying that VTEC passing power out on the interstate in 90+ ambient temps.

Hi everyone,
I have a quick question about Mobil 1 5w30 ESP, what is the correct application for this oil? I realize that the oil has the VW 504/507 rating as well as other OEM manufacturers approvals, but is it a good oil to run in a "run of the mill" engine that requires regular 5w30?
Is there a benefit to using ESP vs regular 5w30 Mobil 1, in a regular engine? Is there a harm to using it in a regular engine?
How does the ESP compare to regular 5w30 oil? Is the ESP a step up in quality from the other synthetic oils in the Mobil 1 line ?

Thank you,
Zack

Friend is running it in his 09’ Tahoe with 5.3 LS. No issues at all. I’d not be worried/concerned

I’m running it in a Subaru Ascent - that 2.4L TGDI engine shouldn’t be using 0W-20 and they are known fuel diluters/shearers. So far, so good.

I'd have a hard time thinking of a vehicle for which the oil would be unsuitable.
Would it be a good option for a GM 2.7L turbo towing 4k-5k lbs in Texas heat where D1G3 is recommended?

All of the Dexos1 5w30 options seem to be around an HTHS of 3. Not sure if it needs it or not, but I’d get the warm and fuzzies from a little higher HTHS.

Many truck owners manuals call for a thicker grade of oil when towing. Or, at least contain language that gives the owner latitude with regard to oil grade.

All C3 oils will have a HTHS >3.5. This has a long list of European approvals, whereas many C3 oils have only a few approvals.

Do you like increased warm & fuzzy high HTHS Carbon in your little Mitsu gas engine?
That travels right along with you on our country's roads, along with less & less Oxygen levels in the air every year - higher outdoor temps and rising ocean levels. These are 3 of Life's Current Non-Political Facts.

..... if we only increased our health consciousness and focus to the same level as our +HTHS desires.
Everyday people are crossing 300+k on their odometers using oil with sub-3 HTHS.

You like carbon? Then you’re gonna love this.

A little carbon on my M3.

I hope the 12mpg running e30 isn’t offensive to you.

And, talk about warm and fuzzies. I run Motul 10w-60 with an HTHS of 5.8. 🥰
