Patman, you were in the elite in the know per the thread, and couldn't do Dexos 1 versus 2...

It's advertising FLUFF on every level...

Nobody dropped the ball, they never were planning on delivering it.

There were no special trucks idling at the Exxon Mobil plant, with the TGMO labels tastefully covered in vinyl wrap, with a Police escort to the local Chev dealer to unload the cargo at the crack of 4:20AM to ensure that Willy Wonka (the Gene Wilder version) opened the shop to the awaiting Corvette owners, with their special "3 course meal gum" the provides starter, main course and desert in the one bottle.

It's advertising fluff..

Just got off the phone with my wholesale GM parts guy at my local dealer. He gave me the Mobil 1 GM part number and told me it was showing as not available yet in their system. He said maybe in 2 weeks to a month, they should receive it in stock and have a price. GM part number is: 19370233.

Too many GM parts managers perhaps are receiving visits from Wakefield.

Wonder if it will carry an ACEA certification. Looks like it would be a C3 with SA at 0.8. Not sure about P and S.

That's been the case since the "FS" version came out quite some time back now. There's an entire thread about it in the European oil section.

Yeah let’s not open that can of worms again! And Pennzoil euro 0W-40 is not LL-01 approved. Only other 0W-40 with LL-01 other than Castrol is Motul, Ravenol, and Valvoline which are $$$$ and hard to find.

I've been thinking about this new oil a lot but unfortunately my confidence in finding it at a reasonable price anytime soon is also pretty low. Look at it this way, when it first comes out in retail stores, the only people looking to use this oil will be 2014-2019 Corvette owners. That's a pretty small market, so why would Mobil 1 package this in 5 quart jugs and sell it for $25 at Walmart? That seems unlikely. It seems more likely that it'll only be offered in 1 quart bottles and will be at least $12 each.

But it also has me thinking, they've kind of opened the door now to allowing other dexos2 rated oils, such as Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5w30, which is sold at Walmart in 5 quart jugs right now for a decent price, and it has an even better HTHS number (3.68) than this new M1 0w40 ESP.

"Yes, the new Mobil1 OW40 Dexos 2 oil (Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40) is also the recommended oil for all C7's prior to 2019. This oil was specifically developed to meet all of GM's performance requirements during engine dyno testing, vehicle road testing and performance track testing including the 2014-2018 Corvettes (all models). The Multi-grade Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40 synthetic motor oil has many benefits including exceptional fast oil flow at startup along with low temperature pump-ability and exceptional viscosity/performance characteristics at high-temperature and high-RPM operating conditions. We are still refining our recommendations for the LT5 in the upcoming ZR1, so they may differ."

Just realized looking the specs this oil is basically a nice 0w30. HT/HS is 3.5 and the viscosity @ 100c cSt is 12.9. (12.5 cSt is max for 30 grade).

I'm still going to stick with the 5w30 version of this oil. It kept it's viscosity perfectly after 7400 miles on my last oci, while other Corvette owners running the 0w40 have shown that it finishes an interval that long at a lower viscosity. And having less VI improvers is always a good thing in the long run for engine cleanliness. It's a win win since it has the same HTHS anyways. (the older version I'm using has a higher HTHS than the 0w40 in fact)

Patman, I agree with you on that choice. The only thing I would say though is the 0w40 was tested over a 2 year period and developed around that engine with an emphasis on aeration during aggressive driving. I'm not sure how the 5w30 does in that aspect.

That's a good point, and therefore the 0w40 might be the better choice if I was racing my car but it'll probably never see the track (other than the occasional trip to the drag strip in the future)

does it not carry the Dexos 1 Generation 2 approval so other than the high performance engines (as well as the Diesel Dexos 2 approval it does have) aren't using it?
