Mobil 1 0W-8

When this site first started, a lot of people considered 5w30 to be thin and 20w50 to be thick. These days 5w30 seems to be almost what some would consider as thick. Maybe in 20 more years 0w16 will be considered as thick 😳
Remember Dr. T? 😂

cant wait for the 0w-30

I might as well be using 0W-8 in a 2024 Rav4 Prime XSE.

2 UOA at 4k and 8k miles revealed both Pennzoil Platinum 0w-16 and Eneos 0w-16 sheared below and out of grade. Both had normal fuel dilution with Blackstone and Speediagnostix.

I'm now running Idemitsu IFG7 0w-16 and will get another UOA. Afterthat I will try Amsoil Hybrid 0w-16.

The search continues for the most shear stable 0w-16.......

I see Royal Purple has a 0w-16 oil, this maybe a good oil to consider also.

For Toyota it is binary choice when it comes to fuel dilution: why having bit of gas in oil, when you can have bit of oil in the gas.
The fears. Oil is oil. Thin or thick. What matters are the added compounds and the materials werd it is going to be used in... mho

So base attributes such as HT/HS, cold weather performance, VI and oxidation resistance don’t matter?
Sure. I did not write they don't or do.
Look engine manufacturers spend millions every year on each engine they design testing everything. Oil off course. Why should one doubt that a 0W-8 is appropriate? Then again the service manuals and user manuals do state that we can go all the way up to even 5W-30. Imho I think we should keep to the recommended. Hybrids run mostly cooler than most other cars. If one uses it to race around then perhaps would be better to go into a higher grade. What I read all the time is this rhetoric about w8 being like water.
Run you car on the highway at 130 for about a hour. Then stop and check the oil. If that's not viscous enough I don't know.

That would be 0w20

You said it yourself. It’s recommended.

You can go all the way up to any SAE grade. You can use a 70-grade if you wish as long as the winter rating is appropriate for the starting temperature.
