I HAVE USED MMO IN THE PAST ON A REGULAR BASIS IN MY FUEL TANK BUT I GOT TIRED OF MEASURING OUT DOSES OF 4OZ PER 10 GALLONS. I STOPED USING IT AND FOUND NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL BETWEEN ME USING IT IN THE FUEL TANK AND NOT. MY QUESTION IS THERE A BENEFIT OF USING IT IN YOU ENGINE OIL? ESPECIALLY USING IT DOWN HERE IN GEORGIA WHEN THE SUMMER MONTHS ARE COMING WITH TEMPS RAISING CLOSE TO 100F. I ALREADY USE MOBIL 1 10W30 SO WOULD IT HELP ANYTHING TO USE IT OR IS IT POINT LESS. I HEARD IT IS PRETTY POINT LESS BECAUSE IT IS MORE DESIGNED TO PROTECT IN THE COLD NOT THE SUMMER. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?

It's interesting stuff. Chicago Pnuematic recommends it for their air tools, the military evidently used it a lot in aircraft in the 1940s and 1950s, and in addition to the various uses in cars it seems to still be popular for use in piston engined aircraft. People are also using it as a diesel fuel additive, blending it with other DFAs. When used as an oil additive it seems to be manily be used as flush instead of adding it on a regular basis. Seems like WD40 for cars and planes :^)

Tim,

Could we release the Caps? Thanks for your co-operation.

My father used to use it in his cars, before every summer vacation trip we would put MMO and Bardahls upper cylinder lubricant in the tank. Not sure if it helped then, but it did not seem to hurt.

Thanks, it really makes it harder to read man... As for MMO i would have no problem using it in my gas at every fill up, as for the oil, i wouldnt use it with just about any oil esspescially M1, I reccomend LC and FP

I had a 1986 Escort GT which used to consume oil ... slightly ... maybe 1/2 quart in 3,000 miles.

When I used MMO, that dropped to zero. When I stopped adding it, consumption returned to previous level.

As previously stated, please do a search of this forum using the words: "MMO," "Mystery" and/or "Marvel" and you'll find several good threads.

And I'm all for proper use of caps only.

Do a search - MMO is discussed pretty thoroughly. When it comes to additives, we always need to ask what problem is it specifically addressing. A good oil already has additives blended, rigourously tested and certified for any number of manufacturers requirements. Why add anything else? That being said, I've seen MMO used (in the fuel) in a large air compressor (4 cyl) that had a sticky valve - it worked great. In the oil it will thin the oil and might do a little cleaning I guess. But M1 shouldn't need any help.

bror, did you just try dropping a grade in oil to see if that cured the usage?

I've used for a lot of things with good results but still not sure about using it for crankcase oil.

I'm with rg144 ..fuel, maybe (did for me). Oil, mostly unnecessary without some pecular problem that requires thinning your oil ..which there are plenty of thinner high quality oils available.

I would like to say thank you to everyone who has posted some great responses, keep them coming.

I would also like to say sorry about the all caps. I am a computer repair technician/programmer and I have my caps on to do my job. So if you see me post things in all
caps I probably have forgotton to turn them off. It doesn't bother me see so I think nothing of it. I belong to other forums and get no complaints. I would also probably think that it would be easier for the slightly seeing impaired to read and understand because the letters are bigger. But do understand its just that I forget to turn them off.

Thanks,
TIM

If using a full synthetic HDEO/PCMO with a reasonable change interval, there is NO need for any oil additives.

I'm a fan of MMO/Rislone/.... in neglected engines that have problems.

As for the gas, if you think you need an UCL, then use whatever you want. For measuring purposes, just save a bunch of FI cleaner bottles, refill several at a time, and leave them in the trunk for future use. Lucasoil has those 5oz fuel treatment bottles which are perfect for dosing/reusing if buying gallons of certain products.

Ack, I should have stipulated that I ONLY use MMO as a fuel additive and I don't run it in the sump.

Well, maybe 1-2 ounces as a cheap sump flush, 50 miles before the drain, but that's about it.

In my example i described above, I believe the MMO acted as a 'top oil' and lubricated the cylinder walls and the rings did not leech oil from the sump. That's maybe why oil consumption was reduced to zero as long as I had a few ounces of this stuff mixed in with the fuel.
