Hey guys the wife has been putting some long distance trips on our 02 Dodge Durango 4.7 which has left the engine down about a quarter quart low on oil. I'm still in the safe zone on the dipstick but I need to top it off. I was thinking about topping off with MMO since I have seen a lot of positive info here on it. Engine has 148,000 on it and I use Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30 per research on this forum. My question is do you think topping off with mmo is a good move or worthless move? Thanks for any info.

If you're running Mobil 1 High Mileage, I'd just leave it alone. It's doubtful the MMO would clean substantially better than the M1, and it would substantially thin the oil.

If you feel you must top it off, put in more of the Mobil 1. If you are getting anywhere near oil change time, I would leave it without adding oil. Save the oil for the oil change.

Add more oil.

Why would you put a solvent in your existing engine oil? Modern engine oil does a good job all by itself. Solvent based technology for an oil additive is not much use, anymore. If you think you need such a product you might want to reconsider your maintenance schedule. Avoid solvents in the oil. Put them in your gas tank. And about your oil level. If you're between the marks then you're done. Adding just a little bit of oil to top it off is something I catch myself doing but it's not necessary. Sometimes I just can't leave well enough alone.
