Mixing Mobil 1

What is with all the pushback on mixing. It's been done for years on the forum. Again I do things "My Way"
There's been pushback for quite a few years. The foundation for which is that we don't know the actual performance of the mixed products, while the individual constituents of said mix have been proven to pass the requirements for the approvals they carry on the bottle. The API requirement for oils to be miscible, as @Shannow stated years back, is that they don't split like mayonnaise. There's no other performance requirement beyond that, so there's no guarantee that performance will be as good as the individual products as tested, let alone an improvement.

Because you're on a forum that's about optimal oil choice, and you're spinning a roulette wheel with your oil on purpose by playing shadetree chemist instead of using a fully-formulated oil that would be more convenient to use in the first place.

I don't care what you do, but the justification for "frankenblend" stuff we see on here sometimes is hilarious. Not just talking about your example but in general.

Just like the people who throw away money on Boutique Oils

And that's fine, people do plenty of things worse than mixing oils, but you posed the question: "What is it with all the pushback on mixing" to which I've provided the answer.

Given that a boutique oil stopped my son's dirt bike from smoking in a few hours, I'm confident than you and I probably have very different views on what constitutes "throwing away money".

Surprisingly I have found something that I fully agree with you on 😆

Given that I am probably driving one of the most reliable engines of this century, these things do not concern me. It will serve me well. My lady friends example is at 180K and she does no maintenance. Oil changes maybe once a year, she drives it hard and also lots of idling. Her engine is not quiet but its been that way for the 5 years we been hangin out.
The fact that you would make this comment clearly shows that you haven’t really been paying attention to the strong evidence in here that points towards the benefits of those boutique oils
This is why I rarely debate oil. In my world oil is oil. Have said that many times here. I'm happy that you are having good results.

I actually don’t use any of the boutique oils at the moment, not saying that I won’t in the future. I do know that they have many benefits over off the shelf stuff. I used Amsoil back in the early 90s though. Was actually a “sales rep” back then although just to get the discount and I don’t recall ever selling it to anyone. The warehouse was near my work at that time so I would just grab my oil directly from there.

This “brew” was specific to extolling the benefits of both oils for HyunKia GDI engines - perhaps not necessary now with M1 5W30 ESP oil .
Because Mobil didn’t know what it was doing when it formulated either one of those oils, but poured together in ways that Mobil never tested, it’s now a magical elixir?

I can’t take credit for the above oil brew but I believe this and maybe other brews posted here are worth a glance .
For any two oils someone thinks they have to mix together for optimal results in their application, there’s probably eight available oils that are correctly blended from the manufacturer that will deliver superior performance to the mixed ones.

Maybe more.
