Friend of mine has a 2018 Chevy 1500 with the 5.3 with 150k, recently got the AFM deleted, new cam etc. I usually run M1 5W30 in it when I change the oil. Takes 8 quarts, would it be ok to mix 6 quarts 5W30 and 2 quarts M1 15W50? He has some oil sitting in the shed hed like to get rid of.

i wouldn’t do that, the 15w-50 is formulated more towards a racing oil IIRC. keep the 15w-50 for some OPE and fill with 5w-30

Castrol and vavoline are mixing molecules for 1k miles now and no explosions yet. Before that, Total Quartz and Castrol, I have a special toilet jug for leftovers that has all sorts of something in it for OPE. Keep us updated.

If I wasn’t running M1 0W30 ESP now - then I’d consider trying member Triple _Seven’s Frankenstein brew of : M1 0W40 SP + M1 10W30 EP mixed 50-50 (also hoping Mobil keeps good quality base stocks in the 10W30 EP still) .

Why would you do that? He doesn’t have any clue what he’s doing, he isn’t a chemist. He has no logical reason for mixing.

My current fill of motorcraft 0w-20 full syn is the only time I have not blended. I have blended Mobil 1 0w-40 with Mobil 0w-20 since I bought the Venza 3 years ago. I want a 0w-30 or close to it and have the pic for 0w-20 for warranty purposes. Not worried about blending. Nothing has blown up.

simple, buy 0w-20 take picture of receipt and document oil change, return 0w-20 and buy 0w-30 if you want it

You know Mobil makes 0W-30 ("Advanced Fuel Economy"), right? They sell it at Walmart.

Edit: Didn't see you wanted the receipt for warranty...
