Mismarked oil

I saw a bottle of PP oil that had the wrong labels on it. The label said it was ATF, but the bottle itself was printed with information such as a d1g3 license number, and the oil itself wasn't red like the ATF is.

It should have rang up as 10W30 when you bought it since that's the side the UPC is on. No help with telling what's inside though. I wonder why it's NOT FOR SALE IN MEXICO.

I will take it back this evening. I’ve also got a call in to Quaker State.

I’m sure Shell will want those photos sent as well.

That is some sloppy labeling there.

The lot# would tell what the oil is supposed to be but at this point I wouldn’t run it either.

Quaker State was no real help. They just said to return it to Wal-Mart. He asked for the UPC code. I provided him with that and he said that it is 10W/30. I explained, again, that the front label says 10W/40 and asked “How do we know if the back label isn’t wrong?”. He didn’t have an answer.

My concern is what if this is a widespread problem. Shouldn’t it be corrected?

I actually need 10W/40 for my application. I have bad valve guides and was using a lot of oil. I changed the oil 5 weeks ago and added a quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. No oil usage in 5 weeks. Others have said Lucas is garbage and suggested that just a thicker oil would help. I don’t necessarily buy that. All I can say is that I haven’t used any oil In 5 weeks.

That being said, I’m curious to see what a thicker oil will do. If oil alone doesn’t do the trick, I have LiquiMoly Motor Oil Saver on standby. Going to do some experimenting.

Perhaps I will exchange it for 20W/50

Because Wal-Mart caters to the Mexican populations in the US. In Colorado, the aisle markers are in English and Spanish.
Yes that is true, much like VatoZone. Maybe someone knows why this product is not intended for sale in Mexico?

Well after all,the United States was first settled by the Spanish:

Even before Jamestown or the Plymouth Colony, the oldest permanent European settlement in what is now the United States was founded in September 1565 by a Spanish soldier named Pedro Menéndez de Avilés in St. Augustine, Florida. Menéndez picked the colony’s name because he originally spotted the site on August 28, the feast day of St. Augustine.
