Hi guys,

any thoughts on Kendall synthetic blend in my wifes Mazda 3 2.3 litre?

I change it at 6 months and roughly 5K miles.

She does a fair bit of city driving with a good highway run a few times a week.

The car calls for the usually 5K 3 months, OR 7.5K 6 month changes.

Any thoughts?

how does this stuff stack up against motorcraft blend?

p.s currently using castrol syntec which has been great for 3 oci's, but it seems like overkill, and theres some $$ to be saved.

thanks

I used Kendall syn blend bulk oil from a Hyundai dealer and last OCI was 5,800 miles . While Kendall is a good oil , I would probably not want to run it past 5K miles OCI. Most recent oil change I did myself with MC syn blend 5 qrt jug from Walmart which I expect to be slightly better than Kendall syn blend (although both oils come from same company). I would still stick to a 5K OCI to be safe .

thanks guys,

I figured this was beating a dead horse slightly,

but I appreciate it.

You just dont hear much about kendall here.

My main concern is the -20's the car has had to start in for the past two months up here!

We'll see. I may stick with what has been working and wait for the sales.

it is basically the same oil as what Mazda recommends from the factory so it would be fine at any operating temperature

Actually, the cold flow proterties are quite good.

I was mainly thinking the longer exposure of 6 months on an oil that sees regular -10 - -20 C starts.

A synthetic might come out stronger than a blend in the end.

Isn't Syntec on sale at AAP this month in your neck of the woods. It is down here. My honda dealer uses Kendall Blend and after changing that out at 2k I couldn't believe the horrible looking shape it was in. I would stick with Syntec or use Kendall "synthetic". You get what you pay for most of the time. BTW my mileage went up using Amsoil XL 5w30 that had been run for 2k in another car. So I get better mileage from XL 5w30 than I did from "supposed" Kendall Blend 5w20. Go figure?

Thanks for the replies.

In the end, itd only be $20 more per year to run the synthetic.
Costco has great pricing on syntec.

Peace of mind is worth my $20. lol.
