Anyone have any experience with this tire? Looking and researching tires and brands for a new set on my GMQ and am seeing mixed reviews on this tire. I like this tire but am a bit concerned by some of the reviews on lack of wet traction.I don't need winter traction living where i do,i am searching for wet traction performance and most of all a smooth and QUIET ride. The Symmetry seems to be a good fit for the most part.

Have you tried Tire Rack? They have very useful user feedback on lots of tires, including the Michelin Harmony and others that get high remarks, esp. for what you're looking for. (I don't know where the Symmetry fits in Michelin's line up.)

They are also a good reference point on pricing, though you have to add shipping. Discount Tire will often match their prices.

If you can wait a bit (not sure how long, but every other month +/-), Michelins often go on sale with a $70 prepaid Visa card.

In additon, the new Defender is coming out soon. Either those or clearance prices of the Harmony could make pricing attractive.

Just a thought.

I have them on my Lincoln Town car. They seem to be fine. The wear is ok but hard to judge because I do lots of short trips. I would have gone with the Michelin Harmony (Called Destiny at Discount Tire) but I had 2 good Symmetrys and just needed to replace 2 of them(2 were worn on my new to me car). I think the Harmony gets better reviews as well. The Symmetry Tire has a nice ride and has caused no problems in the couple years I have used them. Winter traction is ok for a rear drive vehicle. Sometimes I had to disable the traction control to get through some heavy snow though. Symmetrys are fine the Harmony/Destiny may work as well or better. Discount Tire will pricec match or Discount Tire Direct will ship free if you have someone to install them.

The Symmetry is a decent tire, but your experience with them will be highly dependent on which size you have, as the sizes available are almost all OEM part numbers. The 225/60R16 that your Mercury Grand Marquis likely requires is actually a Ford OEM tire (it should have an F code on it, like "F1234C" or something like that. Look for reviews of the tire from other Panther chassis owners on Tire Rack, as they'll be reviewing the "same" tire as you'd be buying.

I had Symmetry's on my RX300, size 225 70 16. They were great tires, quiet ride, no road noise. They were great in the snow, but that could have just been the AWD system doing it's thing. LOL

Thanks for all the input. I am also looking at the Harmony and the Hankook Optimo 727. My GMQ uses the 215-70/15 size if they were avaliable i would opt for the MXV4 witch i have experience with. The MXV4 tires perform less than optimal in winter situations but excel in all other catagories.I am also pandering in the Bridgestone brand but the avaliable tires in my size are receiving horrid ratings.

One thing to watch...if I'm not mistaken, the Symmetry in that size has a maximum inflation pressure of 35 psi. If you like to inflate much beyond that, you might consider a different tire.

No i don't inflate more than 35psi. The recommended psi for my car is 30psi in the front and 34psi in the rear i do go over that to 33psi in the front and 35psi in the rear though. I did notice that the Optiomo from Hankook inflates to a max of 44psi witch would allow me to run the tires a little tighter and possibly increase fuel milage in the long run by not having the"marshmallow" effect that i currently have, although i am getting 21 mpg in daily driving mixed city/highway.

I believe in your size the max pressure is 44 per Tirerack's site. What is odd is that on my tires, I have 44 listed as my max pressure, but from Tirerack's website, My pressure is only listed as 35 max. I was worried about that too when I got these tires. I seem to have a higher treadwear number listed than what their literature lists as well. It may depend on the speed rating cause a higher rating may allow for higher max pressures.

My bad, you are correct. I was thinking of the other size I was previously interested in: 215/65R16.

No Problem. When I had them put on, I think they put on a different speed rating so 44 max was listed on the sidewall. I know they probably build in some error into that 35 max pressure for some of the models, but to me that is too close to the recommended pressure for me.

Decided on the Michelin Harmony. Had 4 installed yesterday i am pleased with my decision.4 Tires, front alignment, and state inspection for $623 not a bad deal in my opinion. Found out the Symmetry was now a discontinued tire and as it was designed for the panther platform Ford,Lincoln,Mercury body i can see why.Other than those vehicles it never was a popular tire from what i understand. Thanks again for all the input.

Sounds like a good deal. didn't know they were discontinued, but will be aware if I ever have a tire thats non-repairable. I wonder if the Harmony will live on with the advent of the new Michelin Defender.

I do hope so,probaly depends on future Harmony sales compared to the new Defender. The Defender does look like a good tire at least on paper.

The Harmony will be discontinued as well. The Defender replaces both the Harmony line (including the X Radial, WeatherWise II, and Destiny) and the HydroEdge line.

The reason the Symmetry lasted so long is because it's an OEM tire on a number of applications. The Harmony doesn't have that attribute. I imagine it'll be in production for another year or two before they phase it out.
